Came here for dinner. We were the first people there. Seated right away. The "show" was pretty good, the service was fine and the food was great. For the price, better than Benihana's. We enjoyed the whole experience. We have been here a few times before and the food is consistently good.

My very reason on how I became such a hotpot lover, and the reason why I feel Benihana's food sucks. This is my ultimate favorite hot pot place. I don't get to eat this often, only because of it's location. I've ate at this spot ever since I was a child along with my family. I usually come to the hot pot side, but when I do go to the Teppen side, I find their chefs to be just as entertaining in comparison to Benihanas, only that Kingswood's food is better. (Try their friedrice!) Hotpot sauces are good, meat is good, portions are good, and broths are amazing. Ask them to show you how to eat the sate sauce with the egg. Yum! What more can I say, try this place! Weekends can be packed so prepare for the wait. I like coming here on weekday nights, less wait. See you again soon Kingswood! Wish you were closer! (OC)

I have been this place like forever ...since my 2 sons were little and now they both in College and still love it! Yes it is more relaxed nit fancy like Benihana's but #1.the price is very reasonable. #2, the service always effecient and accomadating to your needs or requests.#3 , the chefs are all friendly and eager to please especially with enthusiastic crowds! I know, I know Asians tend to be a bit shy most parts but as long you come with open hearts just enjoy it. It is worth it! Lastly and most important is DON'T WEAR YOUR GOOD CLOTHES IT WILL SMELL lol.

Came here for the first time with my family for my brother's 18th birthday. Our chef was named William, and he was terrific. He was very funny and enjoyed what he was doing. It was extremely entertaining - I filmed every cooking scene there was. He made us feel very comfortable for our first time. We would definitely come back for the next special occasion, and for lunch as well. You HAVE to get the fried rice. It was the most fun to see getting cooked. It was also very, very delicious. After you finish the fried rice, you can get free steamed rice, so get it! Overall, the food was worth it and amazing. I would definitely come here again with all my friends, and with my family.

Teppanyaki and Hot Pot in one location! This is the weirdest but also the most amazing combination ever. On one side teppanyaki, on the other, tables for hot pot. Today we went to eat at the teppanyaki side to do an early bday celebration for my husband. There were 8 people in our party which was the perfect number to have one grill to your group. The food was plentiful and the service was nice. They give out a soup, salad before your main course. Fried rice is extra but is worth getting. Along with the main dish, they also give sautéed bean sprouts and also zucchini. One of the thing that I would recommend is the Yum Yum sauce for your seafood. It is this creamy egg thing they add right before they serve it. I looove it. Price is very reasonable and the portion is plentiful. Recommend: 8 people max for teppanyaki (or else will be seating on different grill). Small party, reasonable price, casual.

Delicious food! Best way to summarize this restaurant is it's like Benihanas without the high price or sushi. You can choose teppanyaki style (they cook all the foods in front of you) or hot pot (you cook the food in a pot of boiling water). I always choose the teppanyaki style. The cooks do tricks but English is not their first language. However, everyone is very friendly and the food is cooked quickly and tastes great. I'm a frequent visitor. I can't recommend any one dish because they truly all taste good!

Living in Rowland Heights all my life, I decided to walk my backyard and look for some spots with a good rating. The result was this establishment! Absolutely above and beyond Benihana! Although it was a bit difficult translating Spanish with the Chef for my father's birthday. Overall, my experience here was amazing! The food was great and my family enjoyed it. Just to highlight, the chef performed an amazing fiery onion volcano explosion. Although a bit buzzed, this place is delicious and entertaining. My backyard search in Rowland Heights was successful. Just to note, be aware that it is CLOSE from 3 - 5 pm.

The food was very delicious. Our chef prepared everything with style and grace. The chef was also very friendly and courteous. I think everybody should visit this place.

This is based solely on their food and quality; yes, the chef doesn't do any crazy magical tricks that you've seen from other numerous teppan chefs. And yes, they do look like tired, overworked souls, probably underpaid by the asian owned restaurant. BUT, their ingredient quality and preparation to make them really delicious is top notch. I honestly go there for the food, not their service, which is mediocre at best. But, if I can pay 1/3 less than Benihana and get a better tasting meal, I'll take it.

Out of the many restaurunt I've been to this is still by far my FAV. Just thinking about it makes me drool. This is the only hot pot place serves a variety of choices(including vegetarian dishes) that's fresh and nicely prepared. The meat is always perfectly defrosted with no ice or blood, the sauce is never watered down like other places do. Make sure you order the fried rice becuase they will make to order at the teppa side, and it's super delicious. However, this is a taiwanese style hot pot place, so if you prefer the saltier kind with lot of herbs (the sichuan style).this is not the place to go

FINALLY! I've always wanted to go to a restaurant I saw the commercial for on those Chinese channels. I'm a little spoiled by the gluttony of all you can eat hot pot, so I was immediately disappointed by that harsh bit of reality. Quality over quantity, I guess. I ordered the miso broth along with beef, tendon and the spam that came with it. I also ordered a bowl of fried rice. The miso broth was probably the best I've had out of any other hot pot place I've tried. Most places serve bland broth that only serve one purpose: cooking it. I actually ended up drinking a lot of the broth. The beef wasn't too fatty, but it was just beef. Nothing spectacular. The tendon was sliced up into bite size (my own measurement of bite size) chunks and the spam that came with it was definitely spam. I'm not sure why it comes with it, but why not? The fried rice was REALLY good. My girlfriend and I are extremely keen on sauces. I think Chinese people dig sauces way more than any other flavor of Asian out there. Anyway, the satay sauce was completely full when we were seated. By the end of our meal, it was at the bottom. I can feel satay sauce coursing through my veins still. I would like to come back, but it seems like Kingswood can get really pricey really quickly if you have a voracious appetite. You'll probably have to pre-game in the car before you come in, but instead of drinking, you'll be eating.

This place is run by wizards because their magic pot is delicious. I've only come here for the hot pot (and not the grill), so I will be reviewing that portion of the restaurant only. This is your typical Chinese style Hot Pot Restaurant. However, there are two key standouts for why I prefer this over most competitors. 1. Their soup base is the most amazing thing ever. (I always, ALWAYS, ask for a to go box to take the left over soup home so I can have hot pot again the second day at home). I can't even describe what flavor it is, it's basically hot magic seasoning water. 2. This is NOT all you can eat, you order by the plate, and I find the food to be all the better because of it. The meat is thinner sliced, more fatty, and overall a better quality than any of the AYCE places. (Don't get me wrong, I love stuffing my belly at an AYCE place as much as the next fatty, but I do think that the quality of food here is better than other AYCE places...prove me wrong, and I will take you out to go eat there, right now). If you are familiar with Hot Pot and haven't tried this place, then I recommend you go here immediately. You already know the drill, now you need to taste their flavor. If you are uninitiated into the world of Hot Pot, check out some of the photos here, it will help show you what it's all about. In a nutshell, you get a giant boiling pot of soup that's shared with your table, and basically you put in and cook all the sides that you order. Think Chinese hot broth fondue. Tip: Order the fried rice with your hot pot (small extra charge, but worth it). Their fried rice is amazing (although a little oily, but I love oily, so that doesn't bother me too much, personally). This place does get packed during the dinner rush and the parking lot is always full (since it shares it with many, many Chinese/Asian eateries). Service here is actually very good, no rude wait staff. The rundown: 1. Amazing soup base that's like no other I've ever tasted. 2. Good quality ingredients/side orders. 3. Reasonable prices. 4. Friendly waitstaff. 5. ALWAYS ask for a to go box to take your soup home with you so you can have it again the next night (just chop up some fresh vegi's and throw them in). 6. Parking can get a bit frustrating.

Went here with some friends! This place offers great teppanyaki for a MUCH cheaper price than other teppanyaki places. It is a Chinese teppanyaki place and the show conducted by the chef is less entertaining than a place such as Benihana. Then again, our table was seated with much older people (and my friends--we are not kids anymore haha) and so that was probably why they didn't care to perform a show as they would if there were more kids present. I got the seafood combo and so it had calamari and shrimp. My friends got steak and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. Also the fried rice was delicious! I would come here again!

Delicious teppan yaki at a reasonable price! All the food is prepared in front of you and they do tricks throughout the show. The teppan yaki here is a lot less interactive than Benihana but the food has a much more Chinese/Japanese taste which I prefer. there's a special sauce called "yummy yummy sauce" which costs extra but goes great with seafood entrees. The restaurant also has hot pot! Be sure to order to fried rice as well, it's cooked right in front of you and is also delicious (has that char-grill taste) I do wish that the chefs here performed more tricks as that's one of the coolest parts about teppan yaki... They used to do a lot of tricks but stopped (that being said I was like 10 the last time I came so maybe they cater to kids haha) still even as a grown dude watching the show is always cool

Only tried there teppanyaki I think this place is not as Americanized as Benihana. Also, this place has its charm, even though the teppanyaki chef did not speak English too well and chatted with the customers next to us that spoke Chinese. Overall, the entertainment was okay, pretty much the same thing you would see at other teppanyaki places, but I did enjoy the food here. It was not as salty as Benihana can be. They had good service. This place also has mongolian hot pot. I would come here again when I'm in the area and if I want teppanyaki. I prefer to go to Shogun in Pasadena.

Food: 3.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 (2/5 for servers but 5/5 for chefs) Ambience: 3/5 Overall: 3.33/5 I've been coming here for years with my family, and I must say nothing really has changed. The meals are still fairly priced in my opinion (although I've noticed the portions have gotten a bit smaller overtime). Overall, it's a solid teppanyaki place, but don't expect to be mind blown. The food is pretty good; my favorite is the calamari and filet mignon combo. The calamari is by far my favorite thing to get here! It's buttery with just the right amount of chewiness and flavor. Delicious! The filet mignon on the other hand is pretty dry, and a little disappointing to be honest. I find everything else in the menu to be pretty average tasting. You really just come here for the nice display the chefs put on. Speaking of chefs, I really like the chefs here and there is one who knows my family and really takes extra care in preparing our food. He also is generally interested in our lives and always makes a lot of small talk. What a nice guy! On the other hand, the servers are pretty absent minded. They can sometimes forget drinks, not bring enough waters, and get orders wrong. They're also not the most attentive and it's hard to get their attention when the place is busy. The place itself is not bad, but nothing special either. Honestly I think they need more seats for teppanyaki since there always seems to be a wait, while there is never a wait for the hotpot joint that shares the space with them... Good place for teppanyaki, but don't expect eland thing super special.

Minimum $30 for credit card use! My boyfriend and I did the hot pot on July 4th and it was pretty packed with lots of Chinese families. I'm Korean so I don't know much about hot pot (aside from boiling point) and didn't know that it's all about sharing with a larger group of people. For 2 people, we ordered frozen tofu, fish paste, meat, noodles (I would recommend vermicelli over egg noodles), veggies, and a side of rice. This turned out to be waaaay too much food but what can we do other than to stuff our faces and finish it! Everything came out to a little over $30 and boy was a I relieved lol. I think the food is fresh and service is kind and prompt. They continued to fill our waters and broth throughout the night. Warning!! The soup broth is incredibly spicy. We ordered the medium and even that was way too spicy; we kept having to ask them to fill it up with the clear broth. This is the perfect way to spend a long dinner and be super stuffed for relatively cheap!

I've only been here 3-4 times but I absolutely love this place. I probably crave the food here at least once a week. I've never gotten the teppan, just hot pot but you can still order the fried rice from the teppan! I'm a big fried rice person and they have one of the best fried rices I've tried so far. It looks so simple yet so delicious. Main ingredient is probably the butter they put and LOTS of butter but other than that, it's simple: rice, onions, carrots, eggs (can't think of any more since I'm trying to remember off the top of head). I haven't been to too many hot pot places so I can't really say too much about the hot pot quality here but it tastes good to me! It gets a little pricey when you add everything up, but if you do it right, then it's very affordable.

Coming here for hotpot is a treat, they're very pricey but their standards are as high as Taiwan. The waiters have a bit of attitude but if you're asian, it's meh, it's wuteva, I come here for the food so as long as they do what I tell them, I can careless what their face or attitude is like. Their hotpot is a staple of what Taiwanese spicy numbing hotpot is suppose to taste like. Their teppanyaki is also entertaining, though not as showy as say.....Benihana, but still quite entertaining. The chef is engaging and quite chatty. Their food is typical teppanyaki though the quality of meat is a bit south of Benihana. Their price is right up there though so all in all I'd say skip the teppanyaki and go for the hotpot.

What I love most about Kingswood is how consistent they have remained throughout the decades. Meat quality is top notch, veggies are fresh, soup base is never bland, and the exotic fare (blood, intestine, tendon, fish ball, etc.) always satisfies. It ain't the most affordable joint in the area, but for roughly $20 a person, I always eat until I'm about to explode. Though I only come for hot pot now, I've also had plenty of teppanyaki in years past. It's basically like Benihana's with less variety but way more affordable. Kingswood is pretty much my favorite restaurant, period. I've been eating here with my family since I was a boy, which is probably why I get great service cuz the owner and entire wait staff watched me grow up. That's a testament to how much I eat here. Honestly, as with any authentically Chinese restaurant, don't come here expecting the service to be awesome. Do come here and expect the food to be stellar.

Food was okay. Nothing worth actually coming to eat unless you happen to be nearby. I don't have much to say about food-this review is mainly for their service. I've been to Asian restaurants who has better service. These people don't even want to serve you food water anything. Would never return & perhaps try a place with more competitive service. I must add their fried rice the first time around was very blan and I'm assuming kitchen halfassed it because it was slightly busy however when we ordered fried rice second time around, it was very delicious and aromatic. Another disappointing thing was the rice came out half an hour after we tried to order it, 15 minutes prior to that we were trying to get the servers attention who happened to be standing around as the cash register clearly ignoring us. So one of us actually had to get up to walk to them. We usually want to be in and out within an hour. Service was terrible. I hope you guys do care about your appearance

Front House management staff is very friendly. We told the waiter it's our first time. He explained the menu but he called management to affirm a warm welcome. The lady was very nice to show me how to prepare the sauce and use it to flavor the meat we ordered. 100% satisfied.

This is my husband's and my FAVORITE place to eat, period. When we know we're going to Kingswood later, we literally do not eat anything all day to save room for the delicious meal we know is coming. We will drive the 40 minutes to get here and battle the bad street traffic for their steak. We've been coming here for 5 years now and have never had a bad, or even mediocre experience, and we ALWAYS leave full. William is our favorite chef, and he always recognizes us and warmly greets us. Any time we're celebrating or have a little extra money, our first thought is, "Let's go to Kingswood!" It's expensive, yes, but for the amount of food you get, it's totally worth it. I guess we're not particularly entertained, but I pay to eat. If I wanted to pay for dinner and entertainment, I'd go to Medieval Times. We can't recommend this place enough, it is THE best. Tips: Order the fried bread. It's not on the menu, but good Lord is it amazing. Also, bring a jacket, the air is on so the chefs don't get too hot, but you might get too cold!

Very mediocre. Our chef was very entertaining and encouraging, he told us what was delicious he also helped getting the attention of our server (who was obviously suffering from a cold) to get refills on sauces and drinks! The food: This is the main reason for the 3 stars: They use chicken leg/thigh meat aka dark meat The shrimp and lobster were good The filet wasn't as tender as a filet. However because of the entertainment and niceness of our chef I had to increase my rating! You could tell he was very excited about us enjoying our experience, he rec the Taiwanese beer, let us sample what others at our table offered and even explained why they are better than Benihana, however the quality of food was exactly what u pay for. The food is cheaper than Benihana and it showed at our dinner. The salad was really good along with the fried rice everything else was just OK. I will say though they have a huge selection of non alcoholic drinks and the alcohol drink prices are very reasonable. Plus it's not a hug restaurant but they only have one bathroom .. Womp womp

If you want to pay $30/person (with taxes and tips) for a boring Teppanyaki dinner, go here. I only gave 2 stars because of the nice waitresses. The chef was very dull, not talkative, or entertaning at all. He was as boring as a rock as he stood there and went about his routine. The ONLY thing he did all night was to light up the onion volcano, which he even managed to mess up because he spilled oil all over. To top it off, there was another group of 6 people on our table, and he gave them twice as much food than he gave us. 3 of the people in my party shared with 5 pieces of scallops, while he gave the same amount to 2 people in the other party, okay, I let that slide.. but when it came to the shrimps, 2 of us in our party got 6 pieces each of shrimp... and 1 guy in the other party got almost a plateful of shrimp! WTF?!? I wanted to complain but didn't think it was worth my time. I really, really regret going to this place. The food wasn't that great either. It was very bland... and mediocre.

So delicious and combines two of my favorite kinds of food--hot pot and teppanyaki! There was a lot of people so it does get busy. Of course parking is crazy like any Asian shopping plaza, so be prepared! Everything was extremely tasty. We sat in the hot pot area and they brought our teppan order over to our table. This place is better for I groups in my opinion but only because I'd want to do both hotpot and teppan! Can't wait to come back!!

I personally think it's better than Benihana. They don't have garlic butter but their quality is great and they give you a ridiculous amount of food. I wish I knew about it when I lived closer but I would definitely go back when I'm in the area.

Kingswood is one of if not my favorite restaurants to dine at when I'm back in Rowland Heights visiting my parents. The good is so yummy! My order of choice is the combo with sliced beef and black pepper sauce with added hot peppers, shrimp and fish. Our favorite chef is William, he cooks the food with the most flavor and has the most personality. We love him. We always request him if possible. I'm a total piggy and always clean my plate. FYI: Lunch is cheaper and portions are smaller than dinner.

One of the only hot pot/teppanyaki places in California that is healthy and great tasting. Their broth is steeped days in advance using real meat which is why it tastes so good. All of the other hot pot places I've been to in California use unhealthy artificial flavoring. Friendly service and wholesome good food is what makes this my #1 go to spot for teppanyaki and hot pot!

  • Monique L.

I thought the hot pot was bland. I had the half and half soup base, one side plain and the other spicy. I also ordered the fried rice and it was also bland! Not how I remembered the food to be a few years ago. The food came out fast though, and service was decent. I'm not sure if I would recommend the hot pot though.

Came here for a birthday - we decided not to go the Benihanas route bc it was further away and more expensive. I will say- prices here were great and food was definetly comparable to Benihanas. The only down side is the atmosphere. The cook wasn't cracking jokes and doing a ton of tricks, but they treated us well and even sang happy birthday and gave a free dessert. I will come back when I have the craving for teppan grill over Benihanas for sure. I ordered the scallop and shrimp combo for 21.95 and it was delicious ! For that you would spend easily 15 dollars more at Benihanas! Come check it out !

The best Taiwanese hot pot place and teppanyaki in California, which is a pretty bold statement, but I fully stand by it. I guess this becomes a two part review 1.) for their teppanyaki 2.) for their hot pot. TEPPANYAKI - Steak and shrimp. Trust me. I like the black pepper sauce (it's not too spicy or peppery). Get the fried rice. If you're looking for a good juice: Kiwi. (where else can you get kiwi juice?!?) It also comes with mushroom soup and salad! When you're entree comes out, it also comes with sautéed zucchini and onions HOT POT - Taiwanese hot pot can get pretty spicy, so if it's your first time, I'd recommend doing mild. I love spicy food and can handle it pretty well, but Taiwanese spice is a different kind of spice. I only like the beef, so I'd suggest getting all beef (no chicken, pork, or lamb for me!) It's easier to cook too and you don't have to worry about it being cooked all the way. I'd suggest getting some vegetables and mushrooms. Then, when you're done with the meat and hot pot stuff, take some of the broth and make it into the soup. Add some of your dipping sauce into the soup, otherwise it's pretty bland. I've been going to this place ever since I was little (at least for 15+ years!) and the food is still great. Also, don't forget that they're closed for some time between lunch and dinner (I believe it's between 3-4)!

Ate here for lunch on Christmas day and got minor food poisoning by dinner. I'm pretty sure it was from the scallops since my boyfriend and I had all the same items except that he had filet and shrimp, and I had scallops. Service was slow, but they were full and it was Christmas so it wasn't a big deal. I thought everything tasted pretty good, except my tummy wasn't so happy for the rest of the evening. :(

We had the teppanyaki at this place. I think the service is really good - friendly and efficient. The chef started speaking to me in English (after trying to speak to me in mandarin) because my mandarin is dreadful. Ate the fillet mignon and scallops and the prawn and scallops. Of course you have to go with the fried rice too - would be a waste not to. Beef roll was enoki mushrooms and some bean sprouts wrapped in beef. It was okay. The antics of the chef weren't extravagant or amusing. But the food was decently prepared.

My absolute favorite restaurant growing up, I'm glad to see not much has changed. It is similar to Benihana with two key differences - it is way more delicious and it is considerably cheaper. Kingswood chefs always put on a good show too. When I was younger, they would juggle but I dont really seee that anymore. My favorite is the lobster, the filet mignon, the sliced beef, the shrimp - im pretty much naming everything on the menu now. It is a lot more laid back than benihanas and there is ample parking in the lot. I've been coming here for 20 years and I will keep coming back again and again.

This is my fav teppanyaki and tw hot pot place. The service is good and theres never a wait! The price is fair and u eat free on ur bday! Their fried rice from the teppanyaki is bomb! And their sliced beef w blk pepper sauce.

Kingswood! I've been coming here since I was 6 and I still love this place! One of the more unique restaurants in the area: you get to choose between either hot pot or teppanyaki. You'd think that those wouldn't go that well together, but that's why you're only choosing one. However, if you do want both of them, you're free to order teppanyaki items while you're sitting on the hot pot side. Or you can even ask them to bring a portable hot pot to the teppanyaki table (if your party is split between the two options). First I'll go over the hot pot side. It's definitely my preference between the two and the main reason why I come to this restaurant. Order the split pot option to get both spicy mala broth and plain chicken broth. They are perfect compliments to each other and I'm usually eating out of both. The meat slices always come in large portions and are usually really fresh. Then you can order stuff like fish cake, fish balls, and even the funky Taiwanese foods like pigs blood and pork intestine. Sounds pretty gross, but it actually tastes really good! Aside from Kingswood's special mala broth (which is one of my personal reasons for loving this place), making that perfect sauce is key to having a good hot pot meal. I always make sure to stack the satay sauce, green onions, and ask the waiters for garlic. Tip: The mild broth is usually spicy enough! If you're not sure what you'd like, I recommend starting with the mild and asking for extra broth if it's not spicy enough for you. For the teppanyaki, I like to come during lunch time for the specials. They have a 2 entree choice (for $12) or a 3 entree choice (for $15), and it's pretty much the same exact portions as dinner except almost half the price. If you don't mind the price, dinner is also good. I usually go with either the filet or the NY steak paired with either shrimp or scallops. In terms of showmanship, the chefs are not that into tricks here. They do the occasional equipment twirling here and there, but it's mostly small stuff. The one thing they like to do is the onion volcano, which is always great. Another thing about the teppanyaki here is that you have to try the fried rice. It's possibly one of the best fried rices I've ever had, and a lot of my friends order it even when we're eating at the hot pot side. Secret Tip: Ask for yummy yummy sauce in your fried rice. It's straight up just egg yolk mixed with oil and it might clog some of your arteries, but it tastes pretty damn good.

I have a secret obsession with teppanyaki which the US has never been able to curb, until now. This restaurant offers teppanyaki very similar to that of Taiwan for a very reasonable price. They also serve rice and soup and a bunch of vegetables. I recommend that you ask the chef to simply flavor with salt and pepper. Will definitely be back!

Came here on a Sunday night for dinner because the line at boiling crab was too long. First I was not super happy about it cause I've never been here but I decided to give it a try. And it was really good! The soup was very flavorful and super spicy! We got the medium spicy level and I was dying. But it tastes so good I couldn't stop eating. And for the dessert at the end I would get the almond jello which they call it "tofu" but it is not tofu. Would definitely come back for more!!

Slow service, been waiting for at least 30 mins for our soup. I mean seriously you arent cooking anything. We then get our soup but without our orders. What is the point in giving us our soup without anything? Never coming back

They must pay for these reviews, such bullshit. The teppanyaki was horrible. All my entrees were cooked at different intervals, my lobster was over cooked. The fillet minon was medium rare and tender but the seasoning my gosh gross. Totally bland service, taste and experience. Yelp please review the reviews as this is complete bullshit. Anyone that knows me knows I tip but wow they don't even deserve that.

This is the main hot spot for hot pot with my boyfriend and his parents. Apparently they've been going so often that they are VIPs and also friends with the owners. And you know what? I am so glad! Every time we visit his parents I would always try to wheedle in a suggestion to come to Kingswood. And it's because it is SO damn good! I prefer their hot pot over their Teppanyaki so this review mainly goes towards the hot pot. This isn't the "swish swish" Japanese shabu you are thinking of. It's Taiwanese style so it's going to have a spicy, unique taste. Meat is good, vegetable is good, and most of all the broths are good! We'd get the half spicy half plain broth. If you can't handle spicy, don't order it. I dislike the people here complaining about how spicy it is. Here's a hint, either don't order it or ask them to dilute it. Every bite of the savory meat dipped in the broth was like a little piece of heaven in my mouth. Services fluctuate depending on how busy they are, but even so, on their busiest times services weren't as horrible as you would like to expect from a Chinese restaurant. I enjoyed all of my visits and wished there was a Kingswood every where I lived.

This is basically a Chinese operated Benihana located in 626. They also do Shabu Shabu on the other side of the restaurant. We ordered the beef, shrimp and scallop combo ($29). They start you off w/ a very plain broth soup, a salad w/ ginger dressing and fried rice. After the entree they serve you veggies and either cold green bean soup or almond jello for dessert. Everything was OK: The beef was cooked medium rare and was nice and tender; The shrimp and scallops were fresh and nicely seasoned; And the fried rice was the only item that seemed like it was a large portion. I know I shouldn't eat so much, but the reason why I have never stepped foot in a teppanyaki after the first time I went to one, was because I was hungry afterwards. I had the same experience here. The food was good, but the portions were small for the price. The service was OK. The ice cold beer (the best part of the meal) kept on flowing and the chef was very friendly. I would not come out of my way to go here, but the food was good quality - there was just not enough of it. BTW, I was up to my old tricks. I'm glad someone else paid for dinner!

My family has been coming here since it first opened, and I would say the HOT POT side consistently ranks at a 4.5/5. The hot pot side is the BEST. Their broth is made from scratch, so don't worry about MSG and flavor packets that are typical of Shabu Shabu places. Go for the Yuan Yan pot (half and half) with the plain broth and the spicy broth. If you're a soup person, then I guarantee that you will thoroughly enjoy the plain soup here. They cut their beef, lamb, and chicken themselves, and the portions are pretty generous. As expected from a Taiwanese hot pot place, there's Taiwanese sides such as pork blood, intestines, pork blood cakes, and more. My family of 3 usually orders: Beef slices (the cheaper one), Intestines, Tempura, Fish tofu, fish balls, and fish dumplings. TIP: You can order these in half portion sizes. Just ask! If you have a group of 3+, then this place would be more affordable than many Shabu Shabu places. Other helpful tips for hot pot: - Order fried rice from the Teppanyaki side. IT IS THE BEST. - You can ask for raw eggs to mix in with your hot pot sauce. Sounds kind of gross, but it's how Taiwanese people traditionally make the sauce. - You can ask for diced garlic and green onions to add into your sauce! - In the winter, it gets pretty crowded, so you can call in 30 mins ahead of time to see if you can reserve a spot. In the summer, it is a bit slower. As for the Teppanyaki side, I would say that it is average. I've only eaten on this side once or twice, so I can't say too much about it. The chefs don't do too many tricks, but the food itself is decent. I would rate this place a 5/5, but the Teppanyaki side brings this down to a 4/5.

I always come here for the tepan. I'm in love with the butter fried rice. It's cheaper than Benihana and similar in taste and quality (they have lunch special too). Only thing different is that Kingswood doesn't give shrimp with every entree. I always get the filet mignon...everything is made very well. I haven't tried their hot pot but that section is always full so it must be pretty good. The only thing I don't like is I come out smelling of butter and grilled meat. I think benihana does a better job of sucking away the food smell.

Everytime I go to this place it reminds me of the hot pot I had in Taipei. It's soooo good. I have to have it on the spicy side and I just can't get enough of the Fried bread. After ordering extra servings of meats and veggies, I recommend topping it off with noodles because the soup is so flavorful. Definetely come with a few friends and call to make reservations. The wait is always long on the weekends for dinner. Happy eating!

I've been going to this place for years - and I'm never disappointed. Let's just call it a "HOT POT" place. This place's service is EXCELLENT; for a Chinese place, it's off any Production Possibility Curve. It's way better than Little Fat Sheep in Monterey Park (3 stars)... hand's down. Make sure you order the Fried Rice... the CIA thinks that they sprinkle crack in the rice... and I have to say I agree.

Think Benihana's but half the price with little to no wait. The restaurant also has a hot pot section and regular dining if you don't want to eat teppanyaki style. The food is excellent, the chefs are lively and entertaining, and the service is good. I tried pretty much everyhing on the teppanyaki menu and I can say I like them all. I'm not so much of a fan of the calamari steak though. The cheapest beef dish is actually favorite! You get the option of picking black pepper sauce or teriyaki sauce for your beef/steak dishes. I almost always get black pepper sauce. The only bad thing is that I always seem to get flat soda. So I just get water whenever I go here now.

pretty good place for a group.. i always get the shrimp and lobster because of their "Yummy Sauce" ... (stop laughing!! i know it sounds dumb) you have to ask for it so next time give it a try. Try to go during the off hours so you don't have to wait. The drinks are good but IMO not worth the price .. as always lunch is always cheaper!

I love going there to watch them cook your food right in front of you. I usually get the filet mignon in black pepper sauce...mmm so good! They have pretty good juices too but not sure if they are worth the money. Foodwise, everything is soooooo good! Even the fried rice.

had the hotpot here. it was decent but nothing amazing. i mean really, can you really screw up hotpot? just bring plates of food and we'll boil it... strange thing was they only took 2 credit cards per check, so just make sure most people have cash.

the first time i went there i sat with two buddies - one korean and one chinese. we told the waitress lady to bring on the 'spicy". she asked if we're sure and suggested the half and half, with half only medium spicy and half no spicy. we said no way. i still regret that day. even more the next morning. but i've been going back there for over ten years now. it's the spiciest thing ever to have made it into my mouth besides the one time i downed a raw habanero. and by far the tastiest shabu shabu i've ever had as well. ask for the eggs to mix in with the sauce. ask for fried rice instead of white rice. ask for taiwan beer. no substitute. and ask to take home the left overs. and take her advice on the spicy. i ain't kidding.

I've been going here for over 6 years. Trademark of a great restaurant? Consistency. Although I prefer Jazz Cat over Kingswood for their Hot Pot. I don't prefer any Teppenyaki place over Kingswood. I still have no clue why people still go to Bennihana. The food over here tastes so much better and the fried rice is a MUST HAVE. Stick to the Scallops, Calamari and NY Steak here as its amazing.

Good hot pot !!!! Came here with my family and we got the half-half pot. I tried not to touch the spicy side since I already know I am not good with spicy things .. The hot pot was solid for a hot pot place and did not taste like a bunch of artificial flavors. My family ordered lamb and beef, which looked to be 10 pc each, and some spinach, lotus root, taro, enoki mushroom, and squid. The squid was cool because it came out as a bunch of little squiddy squares, but after it was cooked, it rolled up and became these spiky cylinder tubes .. Very cool !! The part that stood out to me about this place was the side of fried rice from the teppanyaki side .. It was so good, especially mixed with my Sauce of vinegar, satay sauce, green onions, and raw onions .. !!!!!! So good !!!! And the bowl of rice was pretty large and my family shared one bowl (though I think I ate most of it). Eventually one of the squids from the spicy side got into my bowl and it was so spicy and now I know I was right to avoid food from that end of the soup !! About $56 for my family of 4 ..... I would not mind returning !!

I came here based on the 4 stars from Yelp. Thought it was going to be crowded, so I made reservations for my party of 6 for the hot pot tables. When I arrived, it was pretty empty. Boiling Crab across the way had a flood of people waiting outside. At Kingswood it was pretty much empty. The half and half soup base was not good because the spicy side tasted awful. The non-spicy side tasted like it was missing MSG or chicken broth flavoring. I gave it an extra star because the price wasn't bad. Service was ok. I asked for lemon and they asked me if I had wanted it sliced. I thought she meant sliced in wedges, so I said yes. She ended up giving me a bunch of thinly sliced pieces (the kind you throw into your glass of ice water). We had a good laugh over that. The meat/seafood here seemed fresh. I wouldn't really want to come back, but if I do, I'd definitely try a different soup base.

I Fast seating because lack of customers. They do not start their teppan until more customers come in. This means they drag us to wait an extra 30 minutes before two more people came in. Funny thing is they served the soup and salad too the other people fast however when we sat here, they give us soup first to stall, afterwards the salad. Still wondering when they will start cooking for us. They finally started after 40 minutes. So the other two people that came gets fast service. The food does taste good however there is no special show. They only did the volcano and nothing else. It was worse then watching the home cooking channel.

This restaurant has been here like forever, it's always crowded on weekends. We've dined at this place a couple times, have tried both spicy hotpot and teppan, I personally prefer teppan better. Love their menu, very extensive, they have single orders, combinations and side dishes. Good sake and beer. I like to order pineapple octopus, or lobster with scallops, shrimp or fish, hubby likes filet with scallops, good seafood choices. Our chef was so polite and friendly, he makes a very delicious house spicy sauce, it goes great with seafood or meat, he can even make spicy fried rice, I tried a bit, it was pretty good. All orders come with soup, salad, veggies and desert. It's always fun to take photos of chef plays fire on onions. :) The staffs are super friendly and attentive, take away our empty glasses and plates all the time. It's nice to go there on a Sunday night, less crowded, we have more spaces for us, more relaxing. The bill usually comes out around $115 with $40 sake (720ml), it's a very good sake, a couple of beers, order combinations like lobster and filet. It's a lot cheaper just order single dish and no alcohol. Great casual place for good food and sake. :)

I have been coming here since elementary school (1994), and the restaurant has been owned and maintained by the same owner throughout the years! It's never had financial issues or trouble drawing in customers, and it's had consistently great food. I will forever be a loyal customer to Kingswood. Though on the pricier side, the service and quality of food are absolutely worth the pretty pennies. The restaurant is well structured with two sections: One section with tables specifically for hot pot and another section w/tables designated for teppanyaki. I've had both, but I come here more often for their hot pot. They are popularly known for their numbingly spicy soup base. You can order mild, medium, or spicy, and because I like to have more than one option, I always get half & half; half with clear broth, the other half super spicy. The plethora of items you can order for hot pot is endless! Kingswood has an extensive list of items available: Pork intestines, pig's blood, lobster, shrimp, fish dumplings, fish tofu, beef balls, beef tendon balls, shrimp balls, fish balls, fish paste, pig's blood cake, tripe, liver, scallops, clams, chicken hearts, napa cabbage, bok choy, winter melon, all types of tofu, & much more. The generous portions of meat slices (chicken, pork, lamb, beef, etc.) are all pretty high quality and delicious, but I always prefer the lamb and beef over anything else. The teppanyaki here is soooo good. Your meal will come with complimentary soup, salad, & dessert. I always order the filet mignon & lobster or the NY steak & shrimp. Get an order of their fried rice, too!! Ask for their "yummy yummy sauce" with it....sooo dang delicious!! For teppanyaki, they also have some pretty good lunch specials you'll appreciate. The chefs' performances haven't been as entertaining for many years, but they are all very professional and will prepare your selected dishes to your exact liking =). Quality, taste, and service matter more to me than entertainment any way.

I've never tried the hotpot for Kingswood Teppan so this review is only for the teppan part of the restaurant. It's not bad, but it's was a little underwhelming to be honest. When you come with a group the price can really add up. it's not tooo expensive but easily can spend $15-20+ here for dinner for one. The food was nothing too spectacular for me, it was just okay, not bad, not amazing. The performance I definitely expected better. My chef didn't do anything ): He did a little mini volcano and that was it. At the other tables it looked like crazy top chef but my table.. -_- he was nice I guess? I got the lamb combo and tried my friends steak and rib eye combos. I honest think my lamb combo was better than the steak and lobster combos. The lobster was bland and the steak was overcooked and bland as well. The lamb was tangy and a bit sweet, quite good but once again, nothing to write home about unfortunately. If you're super into this kind of thing I would suggest you to try it or if you've never had teppan style cooking before. But if you have had good teppan elsewhere, I would suggest skipping this place.

Came here for moms bday and made reservations for the grilled side but my family decided to switch over to hot pot. I honestly wasn't a fan..the fried rice was bomb though (I had 2 bowls ) and next time I'd like to try the grilled side. My brother found an egg shell in his water cup and a hair in his soup. Normally id go crazy over this but they recovered it with a whole new hot pot and side dishes and we're very apologetic and kind about the situation. Honestly, very good customer service.

Ate dinner with my family. No waits at all we got sat down really quick. Good food As always my only negative feedback was that it took too long for someone to get us some water and I have my 2 and my 4 yrs old that needed water.

This was my first time ever where the chef cooks right in front of you - I know I been deprived. My friends and I went here for dinner and plate ranges from 12.99 - 15.99 depending on your meat preference. I got a vegetarian dish (spinach, tofu, bean sprouts, and assorted greens) IT WAS DELICIOUS. Our chef was very cool and had humor. At the end of all of our dishes, he would throw little pieces into the guests mouths, hoping it'd be caught. Funny to watch actually. I was very careful to check it was sanitary while he was cooking on a hot grill - I'm a total clean freak and germs-cautious. Turns out, the venue was pretty orderly when it came to cleaning the grill after each set of plate. I think it's very entertaining to watch how your food is made before you - there are no hidden ingredients or dirty things, you know? Also, there was no wait on a Saturday night for this place, which is awesome. Spacious venue and service was alright. Slow when it came to getting our waters, but very polite.

Who knew that eating and cooking can be a work of art? When you walk into this place, be sure to get to the "correct" side of the building. A group of friends and I initially walked into a traditional Chinese restaurant. We knew that this wasn't it since the tables weren't set up for live cooking. So we walked out and went around the corner, and voila - there it was! This place is a bit reminiscent of Koki's Teppan House. Here you would order your main entree, which comes with vegetables (sprouts, mushrooms, zucchini, etc) and your choice of steamed rice or fried rice. GET THE FRIED RICE, YES PLEASE, YUM! (However- beware- there is an extra charge on the fried rice. Sad, I know.) After you order, the chef would come to your table and show off his culinary shenanigans such as the onion volcano and among others! Not only do you get to eat your food but also get to watch a show! Now the thing that I did not enjoy much about this place was the fact that everything is overpriced. Sure you may get a show and all, but I just felt that for the amount of food that you're paying for - it does not match up to what you're pulling out of your wallet. I ordered the garlic scallops, which were delicious ... but too expensive for me. Also, this place is a bit sneaky about offering you the choice of fried rice, which comes with a hidden fee! Of course, the menu says that the entree comes with your choice of vegetables and bowl of rice. "Rice" - to them it just means steamed rice. Fried rice - to them, I guess, is an enticing alternative for customers who must pay a fee which they don't know about until the check comes. Sneaky sneaky sneaky. But was the fried rice worth it? Hm, I would say so. However, I do not appreciate the sly gesture. The food overall was great, but a bit too oily and salty for my taste. To others, this place might be golden for them, but for me - no thanks. I'd rather have my fried rice free if my entree comes with "RICE."

Been comin here since i was a young gun...this has been my teppanyaki spot since FOREVER...tho ive always been curious as to wut goes on at benihana You cant really go wrong with any o the combination dinners u try here...and if u dont like the combos they let u make ur own! I always combo the terriyaki chicken with somethin else because I really like the terriyaki chicken. I usually like to go with the sliced beef cuz its fillin and the ny steak is a great choice as well. Make sure to get the beef rolls. Id also suggest you can get two portions o fried rice and divide that between 4 ppl. The almond jello dessert is the best too! Its one o the main reasons why i keep comin back! While i feel the show here has kinda lost its luster. Its def a solid place to eat and better than a lot o the other teppanyaki places ive tried.

Awesome yummy food.... It was my first time trying hot pot soup and it's was so good and not that pricey at all for a party of 5 we all spend about $110 total that's including drinks non- alcohol of course and tip. First we had to wait for about ten minutes to get seated which for it being a Friday evening not bad at all. Second they served us right away with drinks and took our order. Third our food was on our table within a matter of 20 minutes. The staff was friendly and always making sure we had sodas refilled without asking. It was something new for me and will most indeed return again

When I was a child, the only volcano I cared about were the science experiments that involved baking soda and vinegar. As an adult, the only volcano I care about is the Onion Volcano! First off, this place is Chinese style Teppan and not the traditional Japanese. Luckily, the tables were large and they were able to accommodate our party of 12. I ordered the filet mignon combo which for $20, came out with: Mushroom soup-3/5- A nice alternative to miso soup. But I was pretty dehydrated... I'm guessing they use a lot of msg. salad with ginger dressing- 3/5- Nothing crazy here. Filet mignon w/ Teriyaki sauce- 5/5- It was pretty delicious, very tender and juicy. Vegetables- 4/5- They give you a lot of vegetables which range between cucumbers, zucchini, egg plant, and mush room. Calamari- 4/5- I tried some of my friends calamari and it tasted great. Fried Rice- 4/5- They charge you $2 for the fried rice without telling you it costs more! Talk about hidden fees! However, it's pretty good. Almond Jello dessert- 4/5- It's a nice dessert. Not too heavy. Overall, I left this place really full. I have to admit it was a little bit on the salty side but I can live with it. The portions were huge so you get your money's worth for sure. I just wish they told me the Fried rice costs extra -_-.

We opted for the hot pot at Kingswood Steakhouse. Sure enough, almost all the tables were full on the hot pot side, but we were lucky enough to snatch the last one. While the tepanyaki side only had 2 tables. We ordered: - Half miso/half plain base, comes with some nappa cabbage and tofu already added. - mutton, so freaking delicious - pork - quail eggs - pork blood - frozen tofu - squid ball - tempura squid - enoki mushrooms Everything is ordered a la carte, the side items are offered in combos, like squid balls & shrimp cakes, but you can opt to get an entire plate of an item if you want. They're accommodating like that. The servers are pretty nice, some of them are more limited with their English than others, but they still try their best. If in doubt, just point to what you want and smile :)

The food here is good and nothing weird, plus it's cheaper than Benihana. Don't come here and expect to be entertained and to have fun drunk with sake bombs. I think its more of family friendly sit down. The ambience is more for conversation. The black pepper sauce goes well with almost everything, if you don't like that there are other various sauces to request. The dinner meals come with side portions of soup, cold salad, bean spouts, onions, mushrooms, and zucchini, and canned almond jello dessert. Water is always refilled every soften as well. The staff doesn't discriminate and pretty prompt. You do have to wave to get their attention sometimes because they are servicing other tables. Don't forget parking is pretty bad here.so be prepared to take one car and come early with your family.

WHOO HOOO ONION VOLCANO!! That's all I look forward usually to teppanyaki places. We had a big group table, but unfortuantely we came on a holiday and their lunch specials weren't offered :( Service was a bit slow and not as attentive as other places I've been to, but it is a chinese run restaurant so I should have expected it. The chef wasn't too interactive w/ us, but that's ok 'cause at least he did a good job cooking. Salad - for some reason I was given thousand island dressing and wasn't aware they had ginger dressing. Soup - I liked that it had mushrooms and dried onions, but afterwards I noticed it was WAY to salty! Talk about MSG overload Calamari - Being the health freak that I am, I asked the chef to cook it w/out butter/oil and he did. It still came out great, but I think next time I'll do a calamari/filet mignon combo cause it was just too much calamari!! I loved dipping it in their garlic/soy sauce though. Veggies - YUM good mixture of onions/zucchini/bean sprouts/mushrooms. Dessert - Almond jello w/ fruits yummaaaay! this was probably the highlight dish haha. Overall decent restaurant, but food is very salty. It's a shame they don't have white meat for chicken and no brown rice. You do get your money's worth though 'cause portions are huge!

I've been to Kingswood for years. This is my all time favorite hot pot place. Whether for regular dinning, any special event or just craving for some boiling hot & spicy soup, I come here. It never disappoints me. I went to another one nearby following by my friends recommendation, and i hated myself for wasting $ there. Here, gives out very generous portion compare to other hot pot places and w lower price. The meat & seafood is fresh, the vege is clean. Please don't change anything, Kingswood!

first time i've ever had teppan so i didn't knwo what to expect. I ordered sliced beef and my friend got the scallops we split that half half. salad and soup were ok. kinda liked the soup. there were two others at the table with us and i guess since they were already there, they had their entrees already so he was cooking the veggies. i wish we got our beef / scallops before he gave us the veggies along with everyone else. bean sprouts, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, ect. nothing too special. decently flavored. nothing amzazed me. then he cooked our fried rice for us. was pretty good i guess. eh. finally time for our beef and scallops. peppered beef. was pretty meh in reality. scallops were great! loved the texture and flavor. the one thing i really enjoyed. as for performances, wasn't that entertaining, just kinda meh. only did one trick with the onions and volcano. 3 stars for the food +1 for the good service. the chef was nice, when i asked for him to do the volcano thing again he did it. at the end he was cooking a ton of chicken for themselves i think. and he let us sample two pieces. pretty good chicken. ended with almond tofu. not bad. probably will be back. their lunch specials sound nice

I've been going to this place for over 10+ years now and I think that it is THE best hot pot place ever! Their broth is seasoned right, and they have so many ingredients that you can add to it. Personally I get the frozen tofu, squid, napa cabbage, and beef. It's just so darn delicious, especially in the winter when it's freaking cold and all I want to do is be warm. Their Teppanyaki side is great too. I always get the steak and chicken combo, and it has never disappointed me. Even though it's far from where I live, I don't mind the drive to have some awesome hot pot or Teppanyaki.

This place is meh. Meat and veggies were ok but for the price I paid here I'd rather go to Shabu places instead that are much better in taste, variety, and sauces. Would not come back unless prices were lower or at least more sauces were offered.

This is my favorite Chinese hot pot place. The service is on point considering its an Asian establishment. I can say that cuz im Asian ok! I get the half and half with the spicy broth medium. Its super hot and spicy. We get the angus beef..mixed vegetables..and enoki. Then we swish swish and dip dip away. I make my own sauce with the onions..green onions.. Sesame oil..soy sauce..that special sauce thats on the table and i ask for minced garlic. So good..especially on a cold rainy day. The servers come around and refill the broth when it gets low. I then take it home and make shabu shabu again. Hehe..

They have dinner combos which start at about $13 which includes salad and dessert for teppan yaki. The thin sliced meat was Aok. The veggies included yummy fresh winter squash but everything was drowned in butter. You may wish to ask them to cut back a little on those items. I was expecting more of a Chinese Japanese experience I saw the meat for the hot pot and it looked pretty fatty. Service was great. This whole plaza gets pretty packed so try and come early. Overall, an AOK place to eat.

Wow, prices have REALLY gone up since two years ago. Word to the wise, don't order beverages. Completely overpriced and under-qualified. We had a birthday party here for my grandpa's 95th birthday :] So we booked out about half of the restaurant...the servers were very accommodating to all of our requests and we got a fun chef. At one point, he decided to take a break and hand the big spatula over to my cousin. [see photos] Tip: order different meats and split them with your group so you get to try a variety. Choose fried rice over fried noodles. and ginger dressing over thousand island dressing for the complimentary salad. I appreciate that after so many years (we've been frequenting this place since my brother was a baby..so about 15 years ago!)...their food still taste pretty much the same. I would say that's respectable.

This place doesn't make sense. After all the orders are taken the chef takes forever to come out. He starts with the rice, then seafood then steak then fish then sliced meat then veggies then bean sprouts. It takes so long between dishes that it feels like course meals rather than one dish. From start to finish for 6 people we sat there for 2 and a half hours for lunch in an empty restaurant. By the time the veggies came around you no longer have an appetite and the protein and rice has already been eaten. Worst teppanyaki I've ever been to. The lady servers were really nice however but it doesn't make up for a terrible meal.

This place is always packed for a reason...its good. This review is for the hotpot part of the restaurant not the teppan steak house part. First off you can get the split hot pot where you can have two different types of soup, spicy and the normal broth. The side dishes you order are always fresh and thats what makes everything taste so good. Some side dishes to order which are good in addition to the hotpot are: fried rice in a bowl - this bowl of fried rice tastes clean and has just enough, but not too much soy sauce. pretty much perfectly cooked every time. Im pretty sure its being cooked from the teppan side of the restaurant fried bread roll - slightly sweet bread fried on the outside and moist on the instead. very fragrant and tastes great when it gets to your table nice and hot strawberry smoothie - this seems a bit random but my brother orders one every time we come here because surprisingly they make it really well. plus it comes with a little umbrella in the cup they serve it in. i've never been disappointed with this place. every time i go home we come here because the food never disappoints. definitely recommended!

My family always goes here even though the food is mediocre because we get seated pretty quickly. I would recommend the hot pot over teppan. I went here for mothers day and the teppan was little to crave for. The flavor was not anything special and the chef is not interested in entertaining you (which imo, is the best part about teppan). The hot pot is good for family gatherings but also does not provide large variety in soup base-which is fine because it still feels like "traditional" chinese hot pot, and that's all you need when you are with family.

BUTTER EVERYTHING!!!! yes please!!!!! some friends were in town from vegas and we ate here on a saturday night...good for medium groups.. i got the NY Steak with Shrimp. seems healthy enough right? lean protein??? but when u see them add the oil and the first slab of butter ur thinking its still ok...but before the dish is complete they add two more slabs of butter to give it the oily goodness flavor we crave...not so healthy anymore but its delicious!!!!! Add Fried Rice (this is a must for me, well worth the extra charge)... added bonus is that the chef throws some extra egg into the viewers mouths!!!! 80% success rate as the chef was pretty accurate...or my group really didnt want to waste food!!!...the show itself needs some improvement though, i feel like i've seen it too many times...

5 stars for their hotpot! Despite waiting for 40 minutes, it was pretty darn good. I love how the broth isn't overly flooded with herbs and spices. The meat slices are definitely high quality. And the prices aren't too bad. The only slightly mediocre thing that occurred during my visit yesterday was the slow service. Which is probably because they were really packed. But other than that, everything was great. =[ As I'm writing this review I'm craving it

This is my favorite teppanyaki restaurant! So much better than Benihana and much cheaper. The combination meals are a good value. I ordered the steak and lobster with the "yummy sauce" aka hollandaise sauce for about $30. The meals come with a tasty oniony soup, basic side salad, rice (you can upgrade to fried rice which is delicious), a heaping portion of veggies and almond jello. The steaks are cooked to order, always pretty perfect. I am amazed how the chef cooks 10 orders at once, never over or under cooking the food even while providing a little entertainment! Love how the courses are served, so we can leisurely eat and spend time chatting. Be prepared to spend 1 1/2 - 2 hours to eat. Parking is a nightmare since there are lots of restaurants in the shopping center.

Gawd, I just had lunch here and now I smell like a combination of garlic, onions, and beef. I got the lunch special with shrimp tempura, pork, and chicken. I like how the portions a bit bigger than skimpy ol' Benihana. But the ambiance also leaves more to be desired. The chefs are really nice, but don't expect any "ooo-ing" or "ahhh-ing". I've never seen them flip a knife here and honestly, I just don't get why they don't just cook the food in the back. The food is pretty decent. My pork was mixed with lots of onions and pepper, the chicken was rather bland, and the tempura wasn't tempura batter. It was heavy and kinda dense, but anything fried is fine IMO. The soup they serve with lunch is this awesome mushroom onion soup. Really tasty. My favorite part of the menu? The drink section where they spell Shirley Temple as "Shiry Tempo".

finally today I went here to eat. I was sooooo excited. Cause it's my first time to eat teppan like that. I ordered lunch special, beef, mini steak and shrimps. They offer free soup and salad. And also I really like that sliced beef. Omg, it's really good. :) If u r first time to go there, I recommend that fried rice. Yummy service is sooo good. Anyway, if u like teppan, must go there. :)

My family and my dad's office staff came her for lunch on the Teppan side last week. They have both the shabu shabu/hot pot side and the teppan grill side. We usually eat on the hot pot side, but occasionally the teppan side. The cooks are usually pretty competent when cooking in front of you, but there are occasional mishaps. One time the chef slipped and both of his arms hit the grill while it was still hot, so he suffered some burns. The common tricks they perform is catching the seasoning container in their hat, making a volcano that is lit on fire out of onions, and flipping/juggling the spatulas. On the teppan side, they have a variety of combos... this time I got the scallops and steak. Each person gets soup and salad with their meal. But the food was only ok this time. The scallops were prepared with sauteed garlic and the steak simply with some pepper. Steak was a little overcooked though. Some vegetables like zucchini and other squash and onions are served with some bean sprouts too. We got fried rice instead of steamed rice, which is usually good too. But overall, the taste was a little bland this time. The teppan side gets 3 stars. I recommend this place for hot pot earning the 4 stars because they have a good variety of ingredients to add and it tastes pretty fresh. Service is usually pretty good and they serve dessert at the end whether it be almond jello or red bean or green bean. The fresh juice, especially the watermelon juice, is made well. There's a lot of parking, but if you go on Friday night or the weekend, it might be a little hard to find an open spot. Just remember that you'll be driving and parking with all the Asians in the area.

DEFINITELY GO!! Everytime my brother-in-law comes home from Chicago, we always have dinner here (can't say for certainty if it's his favorite restaurant but it appears to be!). We have not tried the shabu side, but that's fine since we go to Little Sheep. Kingswood Teppanyaki is far better than Benihana. It's a similar style with the kicks and tricks however the TASTE of the food exceeds Benihana. Sometimes, I do not understand why people would rather go to Benihana over Kingswood. I am vice-versa. You can choose a combo of filet, NY steak, shrimp, scallop, fish, chicken or lobster. I normally get the filet with shrimp. My husband orders any combination of filet or NY Steak, fish, shrimp or lobster. When ordering the filet or NY steak, be sure to ask for the pepper sauce. Order the yummy yummy sauce when ordering the lobster. The yummy yummy sauce will be a hit to your arteries but definitely worth it. You will also receive a mushroom soup and ginger-dressing salad. I always want to ask for a second bowl of salad. Then, the chef will wheel out his cart and do all the hocus-pocus tricks with flipping his utensils and performing a fire display. Along with your proteins, the fried rice is fantastic! It's just a simple mixture of rice, carrots, green onions, white onions with soy sauce and margarine but somehow, I cannot replicate that at home. Then the chef will prepare your protein. At the end, he will grill some veggies of bean sprouts, mushroom, onion and squash. In the end, you WILL go home feeling absolutely stuffed. I would advise calling in to make a reservation if you go on a weekend. Also, be cautious of the parking lot since Kingswood is in the same plaza as Coconut Bay and Boiling Crab. It usually takes me an average of 5-6 minutes of finding a parking spot. Enjoy!!!!

HOT POT is so delicious, hot, and spicy!!! We always get the rib eye beef ($4.50), lamb, and a ton of vegetables [napa cabbage, gnocchi mushrooms, and everything else we can throw in]. Oh, and don't forget the fried donut thingys too! The hot pot is split into two for the broth, so one can be spicier than the other. I like to dip it in the spiciest one, and then redip into the less spicy. Throw everything in, and enjoy the best, most spiciest hot pot ever. The sauces are self made, so add anything you like to make it your own. FRIED RICE is the best thing with hot pot. Here, its cooked in butter and simply addicting. No one makes fried rice like this place. Don't miss out and just get hot pot. Make sure each person gets a bowl of fried rice as well! TAIWANESE BEER is delicious with your meal! *_* For large groups, be sure to bring cash! They take a maximum of 2 credit cards.

This review is for the Tebankayi side. All in all, the lunch price is great! Its now $11.95 for a 2 item combo and $14.95 (i think) for a 3 item combo. It comes with a delicious onion mushroom soup, a salad with a choice of thousand island dressing or ginger dressing, your entrees, steamed rice (or fried rice for an extra $2) and vegetables that are cooked along with your entrees. I loved the mushroom onion soup and the salad with the ginger dressing. I ordered the mini steak medium rare. It was juicy, but next time I'll try the sliced beef instead, which probably would have been less tough. My other entree was the sliced lamb, which was cooked very well with onions and various other veggies so that the flavor of the veggies complemented the gaminess of the lamb. I loved both sauces that came with the meal. One was a brown ginger sauce which I devoured. The other was soy sauce mixed with onion, which was also pretty good. To be honest, the fried rice is waaaaaay overrated. Its good, but not as good as the other yelpers rave. Its buttery, but come on. I'm chinese. I've tried 50 million types of fried rice and this one was just slightly above average. So why only a 3 star rating? Well I think the tebanyaki at Benihanas is better in terms of flavor. However, for a cheaper alternative, I choose Kingswood! My 2 item combo with fried rice placed the bill at $18.00 including tip and tax. I will definitely come back and perhaps even try the hot pot side next time.

Very good Taiwanese style shabu-shabu (hot-pot). I've been coming here for years and I'm glad that they're still around after all these years. You can have the broth super spicy or have the spicy sauce on the side (which I recommend if you can't handle spicy soup). Although the price has gone up a bit, it's still reasonable. Service is adequate and attentive. The place is reasonably clean. They also have teppan style dining if you looking for a Benihana alternative. There's not a lot of these places around......

This was my FIRST experience at any teppenyaki place and I was very disappointed, not so much in the food but the overall customer experience. The only "show" that the cook did was the volcano.. (ARE YOU SERIOUS?) He did not "entertain" at all, and all he did was talk to the Chinese family (I am not Chinese) and did not pay attention to the other people who were sitting down at the table. Because the food was decently priced I would possibly come back, but for the customer service I give it 3 stars.

I really hate to give this place the lowest rating possible, but I have to! Here's the reason why: the past 2 times I ate dinner there, I found an insect with wings inside of my soup bowl. I excused it the first, but not the second time. They don't do an adequate job in cleaning their veggies. The insects come from the veggies, no doubt. Sometimes they hide behind the leaves or stem... :((( The manager gave me a 10% discount on the first offense & 2 cups of complimentary plum juice on the second, along with an apology... DUE TO HEALTH & HYGIENCE REASONS, WE ARE NOT GOING BACK AGAIN!!!!!

Kingswood was our second choice when we realized that the wait at Flaming Spice would be way too long. The 5 of us were seated at a teppan table because we wanted to see a show. The chef, William, was really cool and fun. I've been to other teppanyaki places before so I already knew that the food was going to be bad. Yup, it lived up to my disappointing expectations. The udon was soggy and gross. The fried rice may have been the best part of the meal. The soup at the beginning of the meal tasted like it was made from Top Ramen powder seasoning. The iceberg salad was boring. The grilled veggies had no flavor. My sliced mutton may have been one of the best entrees and it was also cheap, only $12.95. But the NY steak and chicken were not worth it. No amount of Taiwan beer could make the food tastier. I guess we all had a good time (in the end, it's who you're with that counts) but I didn't see anyone smile because of the food.

It was my first time experiencing Teppanyaki and I really liked it. The show was pretty cool to watch and our chef was very nice to us. I went with 3 others. I had the steak and the shrimp and I really liked my steak that's for sure. The quantity wasn't that much, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. A definite plus for me (at any restaurant), as always, would be the great service.

This is one of our favorite place for Chinese Hot Pot. They have good variety of selections. Meat - we like angus beef and lamb. Seafood - seafood combo is a good price with shrimps, fish, squid, and scallop. Vegetables - tang ho, Chinese cabbage, mushrooms, different types of meat/shrimp balls, etc. Others - buns, noodles (also has bean noodle), blood tofu, tempura, etc. Drinks - wine, beer, and fresh squeezed juice. Love their juices!!! Not only the food is great, the service is great also. No wonder this restaurant has been here over 30 years. We also have tried Teppan but it's not as good as Benihana. However, the price is cheaper.

Great place for Hot Pot. Friendly staff with great service. You should definitely stop by and ask for the steak meat in the hot pot and be sure to ask the waitress to make the special egg sauce.

I am sad to say that this place has gone down hill. The past few times, I was very disappointed with the broth of my hotpot. It was quite bland and that is even after our waitress added more soup with more flavor. Everything just tasted like blah. If I want hotpot / shabu, I will be going to Ichi Ichi, Boiling Point or Hot Spot. The teppanyaki side is still good, I give it 3.5 stars.

Since I was a kid, I've gone here every year for my birthday dinner. We always do the teppanyaki. Here's what your teppanyaki meal will look like: Salad - choice of ginger or thousand island dressing Soup - simple broth with mushrooms and dried onions Fried rice - upon order, fried right before your eyes, yummiest I've had Meat - choice or combo of chicken, beef, shrimp, scallop, filet, lobster, etc. Veggies - onions (with a fun little volcano), zucchini, bean sprouts, mushrooms Dessert - upon order, grilled banana anyone? Drink - I always order a virgin strawberry daiquiri, it's tradition Usually our chef is working hard at cooking but sometimes we get a funny chef that interacts with the guests. It just depends who you get. I'm biased toward this place since I've gone for so long. Make sure you make reservations for big parties!

Came here last night and it was a good choice. We got a table despite there were more ppl on the hot pot side. The portions were very generous and price was fair. They charged us for a dish that we never got but they took it off the tab with no problem. Service was friendly. Overall, I would definitely come back.

I have to admit, I am not the hot pot expert. However, my husband (Chinese) definitely knows his hot pot. This place is delicious, fantastic service - EVERYTIME, and a great price for what your get. Their portions are generous so we always end up ordering too much because we are so excited to be there and to enjoy.

Terrible hot pot and terrible teppan. They shouldn't even call this teppan because it's Chinese style. I came here years a long time ago for its hot pot. It was probably the worst hot pot for me. I hesistated when Nick H, Peter L and Stacy H wanted to go here. I ordered B1 Kingswood Sliced Beef for $12.95. It came with soup, salad, veggie, steamed rice and dessert. My miso soup was tasteless. My salad was not fresh. My beef was not good. My mushroom was not good. My veggies were okay. My dessert, almond tofu with fruit cocktails, was not good. I actually make a better almond tofu at home. I actually missed Benihana when I was there. I don't really care for Benihana. I knew it was Chinese style steak when the chef asked if I wanted pepper steak. The only good thing about this place was the cook. He was very sweet and nice. I had to ask different waiters 3 times for a straw. 1 star!! Kingswood Teppan (not really) Steak House is not yummylicious!!

I always come here to eat their Hot Pot. It's definitely been over 10 years since I started coming here for Hot Pot. The ingredients are fresh, the meat is good, and they have the most delicious strawberry daiqaries (non-alcoholic of course) drinks. I come with my parents usually and since my Dad is a VIP member we get 10% off when we pay cash. The service is pretty good and respond quickly. The wait can sometimes be long if its busy but its always worth the wait.

I've only visited once for hot pot (I don't have much to say about the teppanyaki). My boyfriend and I ordered beef, chicken, mushrooms, and vegetables. They were fairly cheap (I think between $3 - $5 each), so I wasn't expecting the portions to be huge, but when they brought everything out, we were like, "Holy crap!" It was a lot of food. We couldn't finish it all and unfortunately, we couldn't take it back with us to our motel. We didn't have anything to keep it refrigerated or reheat it. For the two broths, we had mala (the spicy one) and the "regular" one. The spicy one was really spicy -- we liked it -- but I eventually started diluting it with the regular broth in my bowl. It was really good. We currently live in Las Vegas; we were just visiting for a few days and avoided going to the same place twice. I wanted to come back before we left, though. Oh well. This place just raised the bar. I had hot pot at Swish, a shabu shabu place here in Las Vegas, based on its 4 star rating. It was crap! I mean, even if I hadn't come to Kingswood, Swish still would've been a poor experience, but since I had, it just made it seem that much worse. Will definitely come back whenever I'm back in the area.

Attitude can make or break a dining experience. And the attitude at Kingswood was great, from the hostess to the teppan chef. We had a big group w/ several special requests which were all handled without any attitude at all. I guess this is probably only noteworthy for a Chinese business, which is a sad but true statement. The teppan dinner was good, all the standard, if a bit tired, routine like the volcano. However, it's still entertaining for the kids to watch the cooking show. Also, the food is fresh and cooked exactly to your liking. Overall a nice pleasant experience. Especially nice that we occupied the entire table and didn't have to share w/ strangers.

My first teppanyaki experience. Key learning: Bring a kid with you if you want the chef to be more jovial. Ours (Eric) had a good time teasing and performing for the kid that I don't think would have been the same otherwise. He even lit the onion volcano with his finger, which no one I went with had seen before. If you go sans kid, try to borrow one from another table for an hour. Even if you have to pay for their time, it's worth it. Sliced mutton was right up my alley, and at $12.95 for the meal and show, I'd say very satisfying. I don't think the food tastes super memorable, which is the primary reason for the 3 stars, but the service and fun of it makes for an experience I'd return to, if not overtly seek out.

Mmnnn Hot Pot... what is this "hot pot" you asked? well it is what its name entails. duh. but its equivalent is shabu shabu. I ate here with my friends and its pretty good. the price isn't too far fetched. more pricey than other places for one person but overall, its aight. First time? no problem. order the beef and fried rice, you can't go wrong. Try everything else too, I haven't but you should. If you like spicy foods, get the hottest broth because it will burn your mouth. Oh yea, there is free dessert of sweet red beans with mochi.

  • Ky C.

i'm usually there for the teppanyaki. i've been eating here since high school and i would suggest it to everyone. there are a lot of off the beat items, such as mushroom beef wrap, grilled banana dessert and kiwi juice that are among my favs. you just have to be a little adventurous and not stick to combos. make your own! that's the fun about eating teppanyaki. if you want AUTHENTIC taiwan style teppanyaki, go to kingswood, NOT benihana. benihana is for white folks.

  • Philip T.

Pretty good! Good place to take your friends for an inexpensive and tasty meal! Might get sick of it after a while, but still a good place nonetheless. Wouldn't say it's the best place to eat of all time, but the food is still good. Food is somewhat routine and simple but the prices aren't too bad.

  • Shirley H.

I use to come here with my family and my friend's family a lot. The teppanyaki (well, it's more like Chinese-style teppanyaki than Japanese) is amazing. The sauces are great, the price is fairer than Benihana (and yes, they do the onion volcano here too lol--plus why do you really need a show anyway? the important thing here is the food), and the fried rice is quite tasty. I REALLY like the fried rice. I also like how they give you soup, salad, steamed rice, and dessert along with your main course/veggies. The steak and the shrimp is delicious. On the hot pot side, the prices are okay, but there really isn't much that is special here. For teppanyaki, definitely go for lunch as the prices are cheaper during lunch time.

delicious! hibachi for less than $10? i didn't know that it was possible. my bf's college buddy brought us here for lunch. we tried the mutton and the scallops. both are highly recommended! :) (note: they don't take AmEx)

I'm not sure how this place has four stars. Food was severely lacking in flavor (teppan fish). I've been to some fun teppan places where the chefs are doing tricks non-stop; this is not that place. The chef did one volcano and put egg into our mouths, and that was it for the entire meal. The atmosphere is somewhat dingy as well.

Hey kids, What do you want to do when you grow up? I want to be a chef. Truth be told. Chef was one of my top 3 when I was growing up. Obviously, that somehow got lost in my teenage years. You ask why be a chef? Have you been to Kingswood Teppan? Place ain't cheap like I would thought and have you seen the teppan chef there? They're like the asian pop stars or rockstars. You sit down at the table and wait till it fills up, wait another 10-15 mins, then the star comes out. I'm telling you, even I was jealous. Most of the customers sitting around me were girls. I felt I was in a concert, young girls screaming "AHHH, we love you!!". These chefs have fans?! They dressed all clean, white and spotless with their stylish hairstyles, nice watches, and young. So there I was sitting like a dumbass, thinking I could have been them. Ha!! But you know what? They sure got skills, they sure know how to flips those meats, rice and whatever else they're cooking. They were even playing tricks with the utensils, like it's a magic show. They can even throw food from one table to another table and make the customer from the other table catch it with their mouth. How am I supposed to beat them? Darn it! I should have been a chef. Benihana got nothing on this though. I had the Lobster with Filet Mignon meal, it was surprisingly good. Chef got game. He cooked my lobster with fried egg and had me impressed. As for the sides, I had the grilled onions, asparagus and green beans. It was a 30 dollars worth spent after all. But still, maybe I should have been a chef and has all these groupies and fans screaming my name everytime I come to work..

I'm rating this based on there hot pot side of the restaurant. This place is a typical Chinese hot pot place. Tasty but meat quality is pretty low compared to other forms of hot pot places. We got the hot pot split, one side regular other side spicy with schezwan peppers. I recommend you get lamb of beef for your meat. You make your own dipping sauce. I recommend you use the soy sauce and mix it with the asian bbq satay sauce(The black paste looking thing in the jar). Mix it with about a 2:1 ratio. Then throw in some garlic, and if your up to it, a egg yolk as a emulsifier (egg is a separate order). You dip your freshly cooked meat into the sauce, eat it with some rice and enjoy the deliciousness. If your looking for higher quality meat and don't care the authentic Chinese soup/stock base, I recommend you search for a Japanese Shabu Shabu restaurant.

Hot pot is deeeeelicious. Great for hot pot / shabu shabu lovers. Just a bit pricey. You can order so many different thing for your hot pot. Theres like 5 different vegetables and 10~15 different sea food sides selection. The spicy pot is definitely one of their signature soup base. Very spicy and mouth-watering. As for their tenpen steak. I agree their chef is not the most social person out there. But I care more about food's quality than chefs sweet talking to customers. The meat quality is amazing. You can order combos of your choice of meat with seafood. Their fried rice is sooo good as well. All in all, you can't go wrong by coming here for a delicious meal.

Great place for shabu shabu on a cold evening. They take reservations so you would not have to wait in the cold. Prices are pretty good for the amount of food that you get... the scallop wasn't all that fresh but over all everything was quite tasty...

my family went here with our friends for a late dinner. we were initially trying to go to the Chinese restaurant there, but it had already closed, so we decided to check this place out. we had no idea it was a teppanyaki / hot pot restaurant. after standing there for a lil bit we all opted for the teppanyaki. they were about to close, but they still seated us anyways and were really nice. our chef was awesome. we had our 2 boys with us and our friends had their son, so he was tryin to entertain them more. everything was fine and dandy until he did the infamous volcano ((fire shoots out from rings of onion)) I braced my youngest son for the sudden heat thinking he'd be freaked out, but instead it was my oldest who got scared haha. nobody got hurt and my kiddo got over it and still enjoyed his meal :) it was a very entertaining night and the food was good. a bit like benihana, but def a lot cheaper. next time I'll b givin the hot pot a try. the reviews are calling out to me haha.

Ate here with the girlfriend. I got the steak and shrimp and she got the filet mignon. The chef making the food was cool but the food was just whatever tasting. The chef asked what kind of flavoring we wanted and we opted for the black pepper but it was hardly noticeable. The fried rice he made was good though. Flavor was bland but the show was cool so I'll give it 3 stars. We went for dinner and it was kind of pricey for the portion u get but since u get a cooking show....u know the deal.

We went for the teppanyaki side of the restaurant. We didn't know they closed after lunch. So when we came in they said they were closing in 10mins, so we would have to order everything right away and also pay right away. Kind of hard to base a tip when you haven't even experienced the service or food. There was a larger group who we joined at the grill, so we didn't feel rushed to leave or anything, since they were just starting to cook their food. William was our cook and was very friendly. All the food was cooked based on the way you wanted it. All the food was good and service was prompt. The server was filling up our glasses even before they hit half way. So I guess it was a good thing we came in close to closing time.

I love HOT POT!!!! This place is more of a Taiwanese/Chinese style hot pot which is perfect cuz I love IT!! They even had Kidney and Liver which is great. It's cool because they pot that comes out is partitioned into 2 parts. One for a non-spicy savory broth and the other in a spicy HOT broth. My friends and I asked for the medium and GOT FREAKING SUPER SPICY!!! It was a bit much but was still delicious!!! Three grow boys we were defeated by all the food we had. It turned out to be about $20 per person. Not too bad. At the end, we end got a nice cold refreshing red bean/tapioca dessert.

I thought this is a Chinese or Taiwanese teppanyaki restaurant so I expected the food would taste just like wat I got in TW b4. However, the food is just bland. I need to dip the sauce to make food a lit more tasty. I remember in TW, chefs always put a lot seasoning in the food so when the food is ready, I don't even need to dip anything to make it better. I ordered shrimps but I couldn't feel any flavor. In addition, the chef made the main dish first then vegetable but I think if they can make vegetable first, it will be better. I was waiting for the vegetables getting done but my shrimps got cold. I also ordered fried rice but it's just ok. I think steamed rice might be better cuz the fried rice might cover the food's flavor a lit.

Good Teppan steak house and a nice little show if you're lucky. I like their cubed steaks medium rare or their lamb. For less than 15$ including tip, you can get an awesome deal on good food and a good little show!

This is just like benihana, they even do most of the same 'tricks' like the volcano and knife skills. I don't really think it's worth the price, because the 'tricks' aren't mind-blowing or anything, but I do like their fried rice.

Been coming here for years. My sister and I come here monthly. Just celebrated our fathers birthday with a group of 10. Cook, waitresses and host all went out of thier way to accomodate and make it memorable. We pick this location for most celebrations. . . not to mention the food always taste better when the service is so great.... It is half the cost of Benihannas, and more food for that same price... yum yum ginger dressing is deliscious. William and Eric favorite cooks. I think these are thier english names. : )

Half teppanyaki/half hot pot restaurant... my family has been coming here for years... I prefer the Hot Pot side and have only eaten the teppan side like 5x. The hot pot side has an extensive menu - remember this is a Chinese place and Chinese people will eat anything and everything - so they offer pigs blood, intestines, chicken hearts, and all sorts of other "goodies"... mmmm sounds yummy, no?

Favorite shabu shabu place hands down! Go in and you'll taste why. Always fresh ingredients and very flavorful broth and vegatable bbq sauce. I can over look the time I brought in a boba drink and they took it away from me. The food is that good!

The hot pot is great. I've been coming here for years so maybe I'm a bit biased. The only problem is items are ordered individually and costs 4-5 dollars a plate. Compared to other shabu shabu places in the area, it can get quite expensive quickly depending how many plates you order. I"m not a fan of Tokyo Shabu Shabu, but from what I remember, it only costs 15 dollars if you order there. At Kingswood it could cost 20 dollars per person very easily or more. At Kingswood though, they do give you a dessert, but it changes day to day. It could be red bean dessert one day or almond tofu the next. Overall, I've had good experiences here.

Their hot pot is great! The only downfall I would say about this place is that you don't get different choices of dipping sauce. I bounce between here and Taipei Ning Gi; they got the sauces!

They've got Benihana style, in-your-face cooking and slashing. And if you're not in the mood for the flashy, go for some Chinese hot pot. Plus, their tapioca in cold taro soup dessert is mmm so good. What more can you ask for? Well, I came here with my brother, his friend (Mr. Jonathan E.) and my best friend once. This was the first time my brother's friend had encountered the Chinese hot pot. Typically, you throw raw beef, vegetables and seafood into a steamy witches brew (aka boiling water... who knew it was so simple?) Grab the food when fully cooked. Customary to some pot cultures, you can choose what sort of dip you would like to create. Me? I usually crack a raw egg (don't worry, I'm dialing CDC right now ...) and mix it with this beef satay sauce and maybe throw in some sesame oil ... nothing too fancy. So we introduced this mixture to our dear friends ... who, once again, have never tried this gooey dip. Moving along, my brother's friend and the rest of us were engaged in some jokes. And he was in the middle of slurping up his beef, coated with egg dip. So a few seconds later and after many chickens crossed the road, what do you get? Raw egg oozing out of Mr. E's nose because he can't hold in his laughter ... or snot. Check (and tissue) please?

definitely a 5 for the lunch price. teppan end up being the same everywhere. The food is always the same with the exception of the sauce used to cook. even the dips are always the same. That is why i would come here if i ever go SoCal. 4 star for food and i always ask for black pepper. :D

I love this place! Everything is great and the prices are very reasonable. My secret to tender meat is ordering the pork rather than the beef. The beef tends to get tough when you cook it whereas the pork is a little fattier so it stays tender. The sacha sauce is great and they give you lots of onions, green onions, sesame oil and whatnots to make your sauce to your liking. The spicy soup is like fire so usually just ask for some hot sauce for my sauce to heat things up. Their free dessert is always yummy too. I took off one star just because it's not the best as far as atmosphere or service, but the food is great!

Came here on a Friday night Jul 6th. Arrive there around 7 wasn't crowded yet.I want to try this place due to the reviews about the Hot Pot side. There was an initial soup base charge per person. About 3.50 ea. It was worth it. The soup came with cabage, fish cake, tofu and some other vegetables all ready to eat. The prices were reasonable and filling. The meat was fresh. I recommend the crab balls, it has a good flavorful taste. I love the brown sauce that comes with hot pot. Dip that with anything and your meal would taste good. Great part about hot pot is there's a choice of spice for soup. The pot itself is split between spicy and regular. I know some yelpers may not know what hot pot is but its pretty much like shabu shabu, you order the meet and cook it in the pot. SImple as that. It was fun and filling. FYI: There is no overhead to vent out the steam so beaware your clothes and hair will smell like asian food. I'm used to it so I don't mind. ENJOY!

I have never had the Teppan here before, but if you're into shabu shabu, then you need to try it Taiwan spicy style at this Kingswood. Surely anyone can put broth in a bowl, heat it up for you, give you sliced meats, sliced veggies, tofu, egg dumplings, enoki mushroom, etc to throw in and cook. You can make whatever sauce you want out of vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, and satay sauce (the brown stuff people here are referring to). Cook and dip and eat, cook dip and eat. People - you can do that at home. But if you want a homerun hot pot, get the Spicy or the Extra Spicy. Be careful! This is the type of spicy that makes jabanero peppers look like baby food. I have this about once every week or two, and am willing to endure the ensuing pain of excruciating spicy poop the next day. If you have a weak or mildly weak stomach, then this will have you seated on porcelain for a full two hours the next day, probably in 5-6 different sessions to make your total time. But, though my bowels are rocked each time I have this, I am still there the next week to have my fix. If you're into the mainland China style hot pot where there's some medicinal crap in your soup, then this isn't for you. This is unadulterated Taiwanese Spicy Hot Pot at its best. Make sure you get the fried rice (made Teppan style) which goes down great with the hotpot. Much better than steamed rice. Make sure you order Taiwan beer (made I don't know where) which goes down great with ... food in general. Much better than Budweiser. After you're done enjoying the best stomach burning spicy, next day butt-burning food in the world, hop back on Yelp and post a review confirming what I've said above. What's cool is the waiters and waitresses have funky names. My favorite dude is named Hamster. He even looks like the furry creature. Oh.. I forgot to add that they give you a free dessert at the end. It defaults to Red Bean Soup w/ Tapioca Miniballs. It's good and warm. You can swap this out for Almond Tofu with Peach. I'd suggest going the latter route since you already have a grip of hot soup sitting in your tummy. When you're done here, make a left back onto Gale and head down to Hawaii, Spearmint, or Deja. Those of you industry-er's know what I'm talkin' 'bout. Cheers!

this is always a guaranteed good meal whenever my family and i go. and when we do, it's for the regular restaurant dining side, none of the fancy shmancy teppan yaki or the hot pot. they're famous in taiwan/china and have pics with chinese celebs adorning the entrance. kinda cheesey, but it's a chinese restaurant in the burbs. whatdya expect? go for any of the beef, tofu and shrimp dishes and you're good to go.

A great Chinese owned version of Benihana. My family selects this spot for our get togethers w/ the extended clan. We usually fill up an entire cooking station. It's pretty cool because you select a combination set- one meat or seafood selection, side salad, rice, and a drink. I believe its about $10-15/person for lunch, more for dinner. So this guy dressed up in a tall chefs hat starts clanging his shiny, sharp cutleries in front of you to the point where you kinda get paranoid and think "I hope hes not drunk or high and accidently throws is wrong"... But they are masters after all. The usual trick they do here is the volcano, I need to try that at home. Service is adequate. Parking is a bitach, and thats why I deduct 2 stars. Carpool, take a bus do whatever u need to alleviate parking congestion at these Asian retail joints.

It's still a little strange for me to walk into a Benihana-style Teppan-yaki joint without the requisite photos of Rocky and his celebrity pals smiling down at me. But that's the joy of this place; all the food, flavor and fun of Benihana without the pomp and circumstance. Plus, you have the hotpot restaurant right next to it if you're feeling healthy (or not, depending on your sauces). My typical routine; dining in the hotpot section but ordering a nice, buttery fried rice from the teppan-yaki side, along with a fresh kiwi juice. What more do you need?

There are two different sides to this restaurant. HOT POT: They have a huge variety. I really like the fish, tendon and taro. Their sauce is also good. I'm not a huge hot pot fan but I like this place more than others. It's better to come with a group of 4 to eat hot pot here. I think 4 eating will cost about $50-$70. If you go with guys who like to eat lots of meat, it can be about $25 a person. Usually comes with free desserts. CHEF COOKING IN FRONT OF YOU: Always entertaining to watch the guy cook. I usually order the fried rice when I go here...even if I go to the HOT POT side. If you order a meal, it will come w/ small salad with your choice of dressing, a mushroom broth soup, & almond fruit jello dessert. =) I always get terriyaki chicken, fish, & tempura. The tempura comes out pipping hot and it's always so good! Chicken can be seasoned either with pepper sauce or terriyaki. It can be pricey to come for dinner so try to come for lunch as it's almost the same thing for a lot less. Portion is perfect for me but I can see it being small for a big eater. BTW, the place next door has an awesome lunch menu!

King Wood is better then Benihana X 10! The price is more reasonable and the food is so much tastier. The Benihana version of a teppanyaki is too white-washed. King Wood's style of Japanese teppanyaki is more flavorful. I love to order the sliced beef (with black pepper sauce) and the shrimp. If you enjoy spicy foods, you should order your chicken, beef or pork with black pepper sauce. I like it extra spicy so I tell the chef to cook my sliced beef with green chili peppers. The chili gives a nice kick to my entree.

I haven't been here in awhile. But I remember eating their lobster w/ yum yum sauce. Boy did they get that name right. I can eat that dish for days. I don't know if they still have it on their menu since it has been a long time since I last visited this place.

Whether if you like teppanyaki or hot pot... this place is my favorite. The price is a lot less expensive than Benihana. But the taste is a lot more geared toward chinese. My aunts even order "extra spicy" on her beef, which none of the other teppanyaki restaurant can do.

Great food, great service, but a little bit overpriced. Id recommend their lunch special for taipanyaki, its a bargain, u get to choose 3 items for 12 bucks. great atmosphere but not good enough for first date, but their food is definitely good, both hot pot and taipanyaki, u wont find any place better than this.

The location for this place is wrong, its not in La Puente--its in City of Industry/Rowland Heights. Anyways, the food here is great! I know the owner personally and I have a V.I.P. card! Sorry, they don't give it out anymore--its only for exclusive clientele. The teppanyaki here is good---the price is good too. Lunch special is around $9-14 per person, pretty good deal! It comes with a salad, soup, 2 or 3 entrees (you choose which ones you want---fish, mutton, beef, shrimp, etc.) I would prefer getting mutton over the beef or pork because it still nice and tender after the chef cooks it. Shrimp is good too--but its only like 5 pieces. The fish and steak are both good too. The best is the fried rice---about 1.95 for 1 bowl i believe---but you can share it among 2 or 3 people depending on how much you eat. Service is excellent. This place is owned by a taiwanese lady, and has almost to no relation with a "japanese" teppanyaki place like Benihana. This place is very much like Benihana, but with a heavy Chinese influence--henceforth the chefs are all chinese, not mexican like Benihana. HOT POT--better than most other hot pot places---the portions are generous and the price is perfect. Try getting a half spice half regular soup base and tell them to put the spice oil on the side---add your own so you know how spicy you want it to be. Overall I would say this place is great for a cold day or for family/friends---the bad thing is that the place is old and the place isn't kept up so well--but there's a pretty good chance this place will remodel soon. If you've been in Rowland Heights all your life and you're Chinese--you must eat this place or you'll be missing out!

Beni-what? This place has great taste without all hype and price. When I first drove up and saw the B rating but still a crowd of people, I knew the place would be worth my time. These type of restaurant normally caps off at three stars on my book but since it has totally replaced benihanas in my book i'll give it 4.

We decided to try this place after all the great reviews on Yelp and OMG! What is everyone thinking? The service was great and the teppan show entertained my son but that's about it. It was probably THE worst Chinese food we've ever experienced! Everything was drenched in oil and nothing had any distinct flavor. We ate everything on our plate with lots of ginger sauce because we paid for it, not because it was any good. What a waste of $40!!! Maybe the hot pot is better the teppan but we definitely won't be back to try it.

give me a freakin break..this is the worst teppan yaki I have ever had..OK..the hot pot is good but for people to say that the chefs here know how to grill meats?? I guess they're used to eating their sauteed overcooked well done steaks their mom cooks for them at home.

Where do I even begin.... How did this place receive an average of 4 stars? Summary: The service and food was below average. I would say the chef at benihana would have given a better show. Price point for the dinner combinations are similar to other teppanyaki places. The Food: I was with a party of 4 and we ordered a variety of different items. The NY Steak - Requested medium rare, was cooked well done. The Filet - Requested at medium rare, was cooked medium well. Shrimp & Lobster - Overcooked and dry Calamari - In my book, calamari is usually fried. The calamari served here was just grilled squid. Nothing special in flavor. Fried Rice - This was probably the most disappointing. The hostest recommended this to us and I ended up getting 4 orders of this. The chef prepared 8 servings worth of fried rice... but used only 3 eggs. I found that rather odd but I let it go. I would be bold enough to say that the fried rice here is on par with panda express (though I dont believe it is as bad as panda). Food Summary: Food was bad and every single item tasted the same. Most items were cooked with butter, soy sauce, salt and pepper. The Service: Most teppan chefs do a good job in performing a show for the customers. The chef we had did maybe... 2 things. 1. the typical volcano, 2. flipping a bowl of fried rice. The chef barely spoke any english and mainly spoke Mandarin (the most prominent language in this area). Since my group was not fluent in Mandarin, we were mostly ignored throughout our dinner. The other group that was sharing the table with us seemed to have had a great time conversing with the chef. Though, it might have been too great of a time since the chef ended up overcooking the food and leaving our plates empty. Final Thought: I wished I took a better look at the reviews for this place. It looks like most of the reviews are for hot pot. Chef did ask if it was my first time here; I should have given the following response: "Yes, this will also be my last".

I've been coming to this place for like 20 years now and I love it. My parent's friends own this place and it really hasn't changed much since they opened it. The quality of the food is still good and everything is still delicious. This is my go-to hot pot restaurant. We always get half-and-half bc their ma-la is really good. Gotta have some spice! They have added new items to the hot pot selection (kabocha, acorn noodles, etc) but they have all the necessary items I like. The quality of their meat is pretty good and the veggies are always fresh. The teppan is pretty good too and cheaper than Benihana's. I always get shrimp with chicken or steak. The steak is always cooked perfectly and the flavor is definitely there. The FRIED RICE is a must. So good! I even get an order of it when I'm eating hot pot. My gf likes to get the mutton which is very tasty as well. When it's cold and gloomy out, which it will be soon if Mother Nature cooperates, you can find me at Kingswood. It's perfect for cold weather and is such a comfort-food place.

This rating and review is based purely on the Teppanyaki of this place. I love Teppanyaki and have been to many different Teppanyaki places. I really like this place. It's way better and much cheaper than Benihana. We always go for lunch on Saturday or Sunday. And I always get the lunch 3 item combination. There is a long list of items to choose from: 1) Sliced Beef 2) Sliced Mutton (lamb) 3) Sliced Pork 4) Chicken Steak 5) Teppan Udon** 6) Mini Steak 7) Fish Steak 8) Calamari 9) Shrimp 10) Fish Tempura** 11) Shrimp Tempura ** **not cooked on the grill The combination of two: $10.95 The combination of three: $13.95 I always get the sliced beef, sliced lamb, and Calamari (which is not fried, actually grilled on the grill) They cook everything the way you like it. Black pepper sauce or Teriyikaki. They can make it spicy if you wish. For the steaks, onions, and vegetables, they cook it how ever well done you like it. And they have this secret sauce that is not on the menu called "yummy yummy sauce" which is kind of an egg based sauce, it is meant to go with any seafood, but I like it on the mini steak too. Just ask for it and they will add it for $.50. If you like Teppanyaki you should definitely give this place a try. Ask for William :)

I'm going to split this baby up into 2 parts, just like how Kingswood is structured. TEAM HOT POT - 2 stars :( I got 3 orders of B1 Sliced Beef ($12.95 each) to share with my boyfriend #fat4ever - 1/2 normal / 1/2 spicy broth - I usually eat at Japanese / Taiwanese shabu shabu hotpot places, so this soup base was extremely unexpected. It's very "Chinese" and takes a lot of getting used to. It's ALMOST like ma2 la4 where the flavor is very powerful in a weird chili-peppery way. Warning: Drink your soup carefully and remember to breathe. I made the mistake of engulfing it and ended up with the spiciness in my nose and sneezed for 10 minutes straight. (Sorry to the family sitting next to me who probably thought I was diseased) - Salad / Veggies - .... they tasted like normal salad and veggies. Not sure what else there is to comment about that. - Beef - they are indeed very sliced... So thinly sliced that it was difficult to pick up and I ended up losing a lot of them in the jacuzzi (aka. the boiling pot of soup). Overall, it wasn't anything worth mentioning. TEAM TEPPAN - 5 stars! :) - Fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice fried rice - JUST ORDER IT, trust in the yelp. - Onions - onion volcano! - Everything else - Beef, Beansprouts, noodles, mushrooms, etc. etc. they all get thrown on there and everything meshes together and tastes pretty good haha, sorry I can't get more descriptive than that =/ So basically, Team Teppan wins. If you ever come to Kingsood, pretend the hot pot section doesn't exist and walk your way over to the Teppan side.

the best hot pot in Rowland Heights!!! My wife introduced me to hot pot and out of all the places we have been to, this is by far the best. The service is pretty good for the most part and their soup is simply addictive. One piece of advice, Do Not Wear your best outfit and Do Not Plan to go elsewhere after you eat because your clothes are gonna smell like Hot Pot!!!!!!

I came here with my friends for a fundraiser. It was my first time in a hot pot place as with the other 4/5 people that I went with. The owner of this place is very gracious and patient. They often came with more soup and considerate on how we felt about the hot/mild soup. I have to say, I had my doubts about this place because I didn't think there was anything special about having soup. I found it to be so much fun kind of dunking around to find the different meats. (I know this is lame, but also how much fun it was to watch my meat brown so fast). The rice is absolutely delicious. Always been a fan. Then again I'm Filipino, when there's no rice, it's not a meal.

I use to come here all the time for the Hot Pot, that was good from what I remembered although it was over a decade ago, I'd say 4/5. I had the Teppanyaki tonight and that was a generous 2.3, so the 3 rating is to balance it out. I've always loved Benihana but there was over an hour wait so we came here. It was very low in quality and gross. Between the 3 of us, we got the filet, scallop (soggy/fishy), lobster and shrimp. The flavoring was very bland, the veggies (zucchini, onions, mushrooms, bean sprouts) came out soggy. The only thing making the fried rice decent was the pounds of butter (culinary magic). Benihana gets away with the pounds of butter because its Garlic butter which is pure gluttonous heaven. So if I'm going to indulge in a heart attack meal, at least it would have to be something tasty! The dessert at the end was a little cup of canned sugary fruits. And to top it off, the chef didn't have the corny, cute tricks per usual :( If I could put it in a few descriptions: 1) BLAND 2) SOGGY 3) SLOPPY. not coming back for Teppanyaki.

I've been to many teppanyaki restaurants around California and this one is pretty mediocre yet overpriced. The service from everyone- managers, servers, chefs- was wonderful. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. But the food was just alright...nothing special. My bf wanted Kirin beer and they didn't even have it (a Japanese beer at a Japanese restaurant..?) so he got a Sapporo which came in a can and was served with a tiny, warm glass. I wouldn't care if it was a hole in the wall but if I'm paying 20+ dollars per entree, at least give me a chilled glass for my beer. Soup and salad were good. But $21 just for the steak entree? For that I could get a steak and shrimp or some other combo at a much nicer-looking place for the same price (this place looks very sad/lackluster inside). Also- $2 extra if I want fried rice?! At a teppan place?? I have never heard of such a thing. At every other teppan place I've been to, $21 gets you a 2-item dinner AND free choice of fried or steamed rice. But who the fuck picks steamed?? Also, at other places they do sauteed mushrooms as part of the veggies and they're always really good. All this place does is the zucchini that no one likes and the bean sprouts. Maybe there was one mushroom mixed in there. Lastly, our chef did zero tricks. None. TLDR: This place isn't BAD but save your money or at least get way more food for it at other teppan places.

This is basically just like Benihana/Tokyo Wako, but with a Chinese twist. They give you the option of having black pepper sauce on your sliced beef/steak, which is quite tasty. Came here two weekends ago and there was no wait, which was nice. Comes with salad and soup and price is pretty reasonable for lunch. I got the scallop, shrimp, and sliced beef with black pepper sauce. They do the whole onion volcano/egg twirling/pepper&salt clanking show for you, which is always fun. Seafood was fresh, beef was tasty, and it came with grilled onions and mushrooms. Yum! It's a little far from where I live (home and apartment both), so not sure if I'll return any time soon, but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal Plenty of parking and leftovers were just as tasty the next day.

The reviews are well deserved. Excellent food and service without a lot of hoopla. Filet, chicken and shrimp all were prime and good portions of everythingn including vegetables. We live in Las Vegas and this is better than any we have. Everyone had a smile and very courteous.

I came here solely for the Shabu Shabu Hot Pot that a lot of the reviewers wrote about. Traditional type of Hot Pot.... only one soup flavor (in spicy or not spicy). Not very flavorful and needing a lot of soy sauce in the soup to bring up the taste. Good amount of beef for the price. But every little hot pot dish that you order does add up along with $3.95 per person to share one pot. But, I have to admit that I am biased towards the more "modern" type of Shabu Shabu that has different soup bases per person with all types of dipping sauce for your meat and rice. Currently, I am leaning strongly towards Ichi Ichi Shabu Shabu in the Yes Plaza in Rowland Heights as my favorite Hot Pot place, but I am definitely visiting the Jazz Cat in Rowland Heights when it opens. I would also like to commend the Kingswood Teppan Steak House for extremely good service (rarely seen in Chinese restaurants).

Teppanyaki is never DELICIOUS in my opinion, at least not since I was 10 and delicious meant fun. So along those lines, the teppanyaki here was as expected: mediocre. If you do come here, I recommend getting the fried rice. It may be the loads of butter they use in all their cooking, but it hits a comfort spot for me. The hot pot here is okay. They have a pretty good selection. One unforgettable time, we found a slug in our vegetables!!!! I always closely inspect all raw materials coming from their kitchen now. I advise you to do the same.

My sister lives in the El Segundo area and was dying to have hot pot (huo guo). So her and her boyfriend drove all the way to Anaheim and I drove them to Rowland Heights to get her fix. Service - Excellent - See below Cleanliness - Very clean Price - $86.32 total (includes tip, for 4 people) Seafood - Shrimp, fish, squid, etc. Meats - Beef, chicken, pork Dessert - n/a Fruits - n/a Other - the restaurant is half hot pot and half teppen. Its located next to the newly opened Boiling Crab. Be advised they charge $3.50 per person for the hot pot from the start. Hot Pot ingredients ordered: 2 - Sliced Beef (12 pieces per plate) 1 - Sliced Pork (12 pieces per plate) 1 - Shiitake mushrooms 2 - Tofu 1 - Napa lettuce 1 - Vermicelli (Glass noodles) 1 - Fish balls + fish dumplings 1 - Squid balls + squid dumplings Service - EXCELLENT - I was shocked at 2 things about this place--customer service and reservations. I mean that I was shocked that a Chinese place had WONDERFUL customer service. And yes, they take reservations. In fact, I was able to call in at 5:38 pm for a reservation of 7 pm. We were seated right away--gave us a table for 6 and was quite spacious for the 4 of us. The waitress was very helpfully in explaining our options and any questions we had. NOT ONCE did she ever give us The Stink Face--the are-you-stupid-or-something face and I have better things to do look. Approximately 6 minutes after you order, they bring everything out on a cart so you are ready to go. All our waters and hot pot broth were filled without us asking them. They cleared our empty dishes quickly as well. Hot Pot Ingredients - Good - The sliced beef and pork was freshly cut and both meats had a beautiful color. The Shiitake, tofu, and Napa lettuce were all very fresh and nicely sliced. All the prepackaged foods was good as well--vermicelli and seafood products. Hot Pot Soup - Good - We did half regular broth and half spicy (medium) broth. I must say that both broths are pretty awesome. Note that both broths come with vegetables and tofu in it already. Once you cooked all your wonderful ingredients, the soup is infused with all the delectable tastes of beef, pork, Napa, and seafood products. It is a heavenly warm concoction. Slurp slurp!! Hot Pot Dip Sauce - Excellent - Each table has the ingredients for you to make your dipping sauce--Soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and Chinese bbq sauce. They also bring freshly chopped white onions and sliced scallions for your dipping sauce. Dessert (Complimentary) - I do not know the formal name to this dessert, but I would just describe it as a cold and sweet green lentil soup. This was a perfect dessert for such a hot and flavorful meal. The cold and sweet soup was perfectly refreshing and washed down my meal very well. Filet Mignon Garlic Steak (18.95) - Good - My sister's boyfriend was not as enthused as having hot pot as my sister was so he ordered his own entree. The cubed Filet Mignon was cooked medium rare and in black pepper and garlic sauce. It was served with bean sprouts, soup, and a large bowl of rice. I'm not sure if he liked it, but at least all the Filet Mignon was eaten. It is hard to rate hot pot places because they all seem all the same to me. However, you cannot beat the customer service and the quality ingredients here. FYI - as I was driving back to my place, my sister passed out in the car. Hot pot craving is FIXED!!

Came here with the hubby for our very first date so I've got some good memories here. It's basically like a Benihana but cheaper in price. I like that it's not as crowded. I believe I ordered the New York Steak with Scallops and it came out great. The showmanship was pretty on par with a Benihana. Don't really have any complaints for this place. But be warned that you will leave this place smelling like the food you just ate. It's just the nature of the beast.

Love this place! Very Chinese style. I would recommend this place over Benehana. I been coming since 20 years ago and the quality of the food has not changed (pricing did). Came at 10:00pm didn't have to wait. GF ordered fresh squeezed OJ which is literally fresh squeezed in front of you. Ordered filet cubes scalp and chicken they were all very tasty. The cook Eric was very friendly. Excellent! Will be coming back!

my favorite favorite spot for hot pot!! their service has gotten a lot better since the first time i've gone there. i think i just get lucky when i go there, because i've never had to wait for the hot pot section. i've never tried their teppan section, but it's practically just like benihana. chinese hot pot is different from japanese hot pot in that you can order what veggies and meat you want. the pot isn't filled with water, but with a tasty broth instead. OHH and i love eating my veggies and meat with the satay sauce. SOOO GOOODD! pretty affordable. i recommend getting fried rice here. i always get it because it's really tasty!

First, don't get confused with the shanghai restaurant next door as the entrance is somewhat hidden. I came here after leaving Sam Han BBQ, still looking for shabu shabu, but since I was a bit at my wits end, I settled for chinese hot pot. So this is just a review of lunch on the hot pot side. This restaurant has some identity problems: a Japanese teppanyaki steak house, that also has chinese hot and spicey hot pot, run by Taiwanese. The don't really have a two person minimum, well they kinda do. There is a minimum $7 charge for the hot pot, since you are getting two different broths at $3.50 a piece, it is like two people each getting their own broth. I should have asked why I can't have the other side with just plain water. The hot pot menu had the usual items: beef, lamb, pork chicken, seafood, pork blood, vegies, fish paste balls, etc, etc. I opted for an order of beef, lamb, bok choi, soft tofu, fish paste balls, and fish dumplings. The actual pot came out, one side with spicey borth and the other side with, I think, beef bone broth. There was already some stuff in each side of the pot: napa cabbage, tofu, fish cakes. I ordered the least spicey broth and I have to say it was still very spciey. Unfortunately that is all it was, there was no other flavor(s) underneath that. My order came out next. I have to say after seeing the size of the portions and thinking about the price, this place is a trerrible value. Each plate of meat cost $4, there were about 13 slices of meat. If you wanted premium, then that is $13.00 a plate. Instead of bok choi, they brought out more napa cabbage, I didn't bother to send it back. The napa cabbage was about a quarter of a cabbage worth for about $3. And lastly I ordered the fish dumplings and fish cakes at $3.50. It was 4 five cakes, cut in half and 5 fish dumplings For $3.50 you can get a package of 20 fish cakes, so the mark up is pretty high. The order of soft tofu was $3 and was about one package worth. Other than the lack of any complexity on the spicey broth side, everything tasted fine. My total bill with tax and tip was $32. Lastly is the service. Not much to say since there wasn't much of it. I had to get the sauces from another table since the waitress didn't bother to bring them to me. Getting my tea refilled was like pulling teeth. I felt the worst offense in service was when they asked me to pay the bill before even started eating. According to the manager, they close at 3 and so I need to pay before then. What? Your credit card terminal shuts down at 3? All the employees leave at 3? The bank clases at 3? What is so magical about 3 that you need everyone to pay by then? Poor value, poor service, below average taste.

This place is like a Benihana and a shabu shabu. Service there was awesome. No complaints there. Food was great! We ordered Filet Mignon with Scallops, New York Steak with Shrimp, Fish Filet with Chicken and Sliced beef with Shrimp. All very delicious! By the way, it was my birthday so they gave me a free Fried Banana Glazed with Honey...Omg! Mouth watering... The only reason they didn't get five stars is because our chef was sick and he was just unsanitary handling tissues and food...Ew...But overall great place.

With all these shabu shabu places opening up everywhere, it's nice to have this family style hot pot restaurant around. This place has been open for ages. I've been coming here for at least a decade. I've had their teppan before, but not often so this will just be for the hot pot portion. I like that they have complimentary satay, sesame, etc etc sauces because some places charge extra for those. It's also nice that they split the pot in half, so you can get 2 kinds of broth. My family usually goes with half mild and half little spice. But I just came with my mom this afternoon and we got half little spice and half medium spice. I guess they're not that consistent with the spice level, because the medium was actually bearable for me today. But get at least a little spice! It makes everything taste better :D They have a variety of things you can put in. I always get beef, rice cake, and tofu skin? The portions don't seem that big since each plate only comes with a dozen, but once you start eating you get bloated real quick. I'd say order a couple of dishes first, and add them later if you're still hungry so you don't overeat like I always do. The service varies depending upon whether it's a weekday/weekend. Weekdays are less packed, but not as many waiters working. The price is average for hot pot I guess, with dishes around $3-$5. For some reason, hot pot at home just doesn't taste this good! Oh and it's nice that the teppan is just the other half of the restaurant, because sometimes you can get a show with your hot pot too!

I haven't been to a teppan place in the longest time, so I didn't know what to expect all that much from Kingswood. The interior didn't match up all that much with Benihana. It kind of looked like your standard Chinese restaurant with a bunch of grilling stations. For a party of 10, we had an entire station set aside from us. There wasn't a wait when we came (it was dinner time on a Thursday night). The menu is quite expansive and seemed like they had a lot of choices available. I ordered the filet mignon and calamari for about $22-25. My friends also got similiar combinations: sliced beef, shrimp, chicken, fish. You have a choice of steamed rice or fried rice. The fried rice will cost ya $2 but I think worth it. Our teppan chef came out and was very animated at the beginning. He started off getting our vegetables prepped and all the fried rice made. While he was doing that, our table was starting on the salad (either with ginger or thousand island dressing) and a mushroom broth. Both were good starters for the meal. Soon after, he was doing tricks with our rice. He made a heart shape out of it, used some leftover egg to throw at us like we were hungry seals and your classic, erupting onion volcano. I was surprised not to see the toss the leftover shrimp tails in his hat trick. Aside from that, the meal was without much tricks for the rest of the night. For the first go around, he got the calamari started alongside the shrimp, fish and chicken. When it was done, I couldn't wait to get my hand on it, but not everyone at the table had received their food. So following along the lines of dining etiquette, I left it untouched (but even with the hot plate near the grill, it went cold quite fast). There probably is a reason why he did it in the order he did. Anyhow, he got started on the meat afterwards. He will ask you how you want it cooked and whether you want teriyaki or black pepper seasoning. When all the food was cooked (this was accompanied with all the veggies he had prepped earlier, which is a combination of onions and zucchini), I must say the food came out better than I thought. The calamari was cooked just right and I thought the meat was pretty tender and juicy. The food wasn't too out of this world, but I think it is pretty much in line for what you pay for. The portions could be bigger, but as you are waiting for the rest of your party to get their food, and enjoying the food being cooked, you can get full off of waiting. Aside from the lack of showmanship from the chef, you should check it out if you are in the area. However, if you're coming from the OC, you may want to save the trip out to here and find something more local. I'm sure there are just as good or better alternatives around.

Haven't been here since I was a kid but I came back recently with family. At first we got salad and soup. The salad was just okay, thousand island sauce with lettuce. Aunt told waitress about our very bland soup, the waitress said she would go taste it herself. The waitress came back and apologized that the soup wasn't as good as it used to be and told my aunt that she would bring her back a fresh bowl. My aunt said that wasn't necessary. Finally, our food was being prepared. It sucks that they make our meats first since I like my whole meal to be done on my plate before eating, my meat gets cold. We all had the filet mignon, which was overcooked even when we asked for it to be cooked only 4 minutes. He seemed to have cooked all of our meats (when my uncle ordered his to be 7 minutes) at the same time and didn't give us our 4 minute meats earlier. The fried rice was pretty good. My scallops were just okay but my aunt's lobster was overcooked as well. The veggies were just okay, of course they would use the cheap bean sprouts. In the end, I wasn't at all satisfied nor full. This place has gotten worse in quality and taste in the many years since I've been here. Definitely not worth the price. Now that Boiling Crab is in the same plaza, parking is terrible and hard to find at night.

BEST HOT POT EVER! I love this place's SPICY hot pot. If you like spice, and some sweat, you'll love it here. They got their half spicy half none spicy pot, so even if you don't enjoy spice, you get to enjoy some great hotpot.

Went for the Hibachi and my review is for that only. Several people have indicted that the hot pot's are good, but we didn't get one so I can't speak to that. They have several tables so seating was not an issue for our group of 8. Overall it was a good experience but the food was just ok. Our cook really didn't do anything to make it fun or special. He lit a fire and made a heart out of the rice... that was it. No shrimp toss, no funny jokes, no onion volcano... overall very disappointing from that stand point. Minus 1 star for that. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I had NY Steak and Chicken as well as fried rice. No much else to say about that. Minus 1 star for that. May go back if I was in the area but only after trying some of the other hibachi spots first.

Love this place. I personally like the hotpot side better, but for the Teppanyiki side, you can pretty much expect to get what you'd get a Benihana, but for cheaper. Their lunch portions though, are more reasonable. For dinner, I am not sure if I'd pay over $15 on Teppanyiki. HOT POT, on the other hand, is pretty good. The veggies are always fresh and they offer a wide variety of dishes for you to cook in the pot ;) The spicy side is REALLY spicy, so beware!!

3.5 stars. Pros: Big place, especially compared to other shabu places around the area. Wait time was about 20 mins for a table of 8 on Sunday night. Veggies were handpicked. I know it' just veggies but I like that they picked each one, each leaf was washed throughly and fresh (yes I actually check for freshness, it's important!) Chinese donut (especially when it is quickly dipped in the soup, is super yummy) Goose intestine: sounds disgusting but taste good if you dare to try. You're eating for the texture anyway with the soup) Beef tendon/tripe: EXCELLENT. I don't know where they get it from but it's just the right texture and was great in my shabu Deep fried buns (everyone orders this) Sour plum juice (it's not my favorite drink but it's homemade and it helped my thirst + calmed the spicyness in my mouth) Total for 8 was only $145 + tip. We all stuffed ourselves. Cons: Meat (beef)'s quality is VERY average, but not expensive so you pay what you get. Lamb was bad. I know again it's priced right but I rather pay more for lamb that doesn't smell that bad. Udon were the cheap kind, not chewy. Yes there is a difference and you can purchase different ones in markets (huge difference in price) Parking is a nightmare.

This place is LEGIT! If you feel like a spicy made-at-your-table soup, this is the place to be. I've never seen anyone but Asians dining in the shabu shabu area, but it doesn't thwart me from trying to all the fun veggies I can't read from the menu ;) Their English is very limited but they are always willing to make helpful suggestions. Suggestion: when they ask you for what level of spice you want to eat, request LITTLE SPICY. I'm Hispanic and I like spicy things, but this spice is unlike anything I've eaten before. Don't say I didn't warn you! ;) Another great surprise is that it's vegetarian-friendly! They serve three different types of tofu, a plethora of veggies, and an array of different meat (if you're a carnivore). And if you're going for the full experience, order their fried rice. It's DELISH!!! [Note: I can't say much for the teppan, because when the "hot pot" (shabu shabu) is THIS good, why on earth would I try something I can get at Benihana's? ]

Service was top-notch. Our waiter was extremely friendly in explaining how to eat hot pot and make the sauces and stuff. We went with the spicy broth (which is pretty darn spicy) but it's almost a little too overwhelming and oily. We asked the waiter to recommend a lot of the stuff we should put in there and everything was alright. I don't recommend ordering the shrimp dumplings though. And, even if you like spicy, start with the mild sauce and adjust with the spicy broth as they come around to refill your broth, because the spicy broth was just too much oily spiciness.

Ok so if you have the hot pot, when the lady says the hot is really hot believe her. We ordered it medium and they still had to take out some of the chilli oil and add more water. Overall still a decent place for hot pot but i wouldn't consider this to be any special or outstanding. Thats why im giving it just an "ok" rating

I love the Teppan Yaki grill here I rate it **4.5 STARS** my fav combo is new york steak and shrimp. The teppan yaki chiefs are entertaining and make great food. I love their onion/mushroom soup it's a change from miso. The veggies are great also. They have great lunch specials to save a lit money but still enjoy some great food! I'd rate the Hot Pot a 2.5-3 the servers aren't very nice or seems to lack understanding and it was hard to get condiments and I just felt like it was missing something not too sure. The servings of meat are great but it just seemed to be missing something lack of seasoning but hard to get condiments. We ordered half spicy and it was spicy there was a lot of heat with no flavor =(. i probably won't be coming back for Hot Pot but will be back for teppan yaki.

only reason i eat hotpot instead of shabu is because this place has FISH HAM (little fish balls with something DELICIOUS inside), and CHIKAWA?. and this sweet bread roll. and the price is way better. usually spend around 60 - 70 for 4 people.

This review is for the teppan side only. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! So much more affordable compared to Benihana. And they actually do all the fire tricks! Better show, costs less, what more could you ask for? And of course, the food is amazing! The minced beef, lamb, NY steak, shrimp, scallops, .... oh hell, they're ALL good! I don't think I've ever tried anything on the menu that I DIDN'T like. And I think I've had my fair share of entrees. Bonus points for the chefs that are funny and play tricks on the guests.

Service It is in an Asian (Chinese) populated area, so what do you expect?! Food Love this hotpot place. If you are going to order spicy broth, I'd have to warn you to be careful because it is very....spicy. I don't recommend the spicy broth, maybe medium or mild, because 1) it is too spicy and 2) all the vegetables that you cook in there would soak up all the spicy broth and too spicy for you to enjoy them. They have a lot of sides to pick from and go with whatever you like since they are all cooked in the broth and the broth is delicious. We always order fried rice. Even though it is a bit on the oily side, it is still good. They have a lot of sauces, but I like dipping my Chinese donut in the soup and the "BBQ sauce". You can also get teppan yaki here too, but never had it here before.

Best Hot Pot in your life! I just got back fro Chongching (where hot pot originated from) and this place is still hands down my favorite! Mild and Medium soup with fish ham, veggies, golden mushrooms, chicken, beef, Chinese donuts = Heaven on Earth. They have excellent dipping sauce and great friendly service.

I get really happy when I know I'm coming to eat here because I can choose between Teppanyaki or hot pot :D Teppanyaki: They have a variety of combos that you can choose from such as sliced beef, filet mignon, chicken, fish, scallops, etc. It is always cooked fresh with vegetables and such.. The fried rice is a must! & you know you'll be entertained because you can watch the chef cook your meal :) Hot Pot: Ohhhh hot pot.. how simple you are yet how delicious you can be! There is also a wide variety in their hot pot section. They have a lot of meats, vegetables, and even fish cakes to choose from. I really like hot pot better than shabu shabu because you can chose what you want to eat and order more of it than just having to eat what they give you by default. I always get a lot of vegetables and they give big portions and are always fresh~ yay Teppanyaki or Hotpot you can't go wrong here !

I wanted to write an update on my visit from 2/18 (my check in). It's really great to know that even after perhaps 2 years or so of not coming here (or having teppanyaki for that matter), that the food and show here is still the same as it was when I was a kid. The food still tastes great, their famous fried rice still has that "Oh my God" scrumptious taste, and the teppanyaki grill show is still the same frills of random flames and the iconic onion volcano. Only difference I've noticed is that the dessert portion seems to have downsized (the almond jelly & fruit cocktail). The serving dish seemed a lot smaller from my memory. Oh well, no harm done. Still a great place! A definite must visit!

This place is definitely one of my favorite places to eat. I have not found any place that has better hotpot! I highly recommend the spicy broth. Not only is the food amazing but the service is just as good. The only downside is that this place gets super busy during dinner time.

Of course boiling crab would be crowded, so I just walked over with my family to Kingswood. I have never tried the teppanyaki here, but I would like to say, go for the hot pot. Everything about it is delicious! The service, the food, the place; everything! I just walk in and they already have a seat open. Not so busy around the hot pot section because everyone wants a show. I don't care about that, I just want my food! Being a little daredevil, I ordered really half really spicy and half mild. I regret it. When they say spicy, THEY MEAN SPICY! It was the darkest shade of red I've ever seen. So I asked for a plain and they politely changed it for me knowing my pain. They check for you regularly and I like service like that considering you can not stop eating! The number one thing I recommend ordering for this, is fish ham. A nice small fish and shrimp ball with sweet fish eggs inside. Sounds weird, I know, but believe me its really addicting! Also, the sauce. Just dipping everything I've got in my bowl into that sucker! Some of the sukiyaki, sesame oil, a tiny drop of vinegar, and some green and white onions, Voila! Don't forget to order a side of fried rice also, it's the icing on top! It's a great place for families to have a warm dinner. It would be a 5 star if the prices were a bit lower because the portion they give you is very little. But that's all right, it was still great! Give the hot pot a chance!

My friend and I came in late on a Friday night, the kitchen was closing, and there were only a few people left but they still welcomed us with opened arms! PLUS !!! We were freezing so we thought some spicy hot pot would hit the spot. I was going to order half mild half medium but the manager warned me their soup was spicy! My friend and I laughed, silly she shouldn't underestimate us!!! But i ordered non spicy and spicy just to be on the safe side.... and oh boy were we in for a treat. She only gave us MILD and WE WERE IN SNIFFLING, CRYING, and REFILLING WATER like no other. Okay not actually crying but GOSH DAMN THEIR SOUP IS SPICY!!! Our waitress had to pour regular soup to dilute the spice!!! We had to shamefully finish our now non-spicy hot pot as the staff was laughing behind our backs for underestimating them! :[ The food was good, not great, but i think i lost a lot of my taste buds from the spice to accurately judge... note to self: dont be so ambitious

Food was good. I had the beef hotpot (half and half -- spicy and not spicy). Broth comes with tofu and some vegetables. I also requested spinach for my broth and a side of white rice. Taste was great and meal was filling. Service was poor. I waited about 15 mins to place an order after being seated and restaurant was mostly empty. Waitress mumbled everything and I could not understand so I wondered if she spoke English. I was getting ready to leave. The hostess eventually took my order after she realized I was not being helped. She was helping in providing recommendations also. The restaurant closes from 3 - 5 pm, so at 3 pm they provide the bill to the guests. The hostess left at about 3 pm and no one came back to check on my table even though I needed water refills. My water was not refilled once since I was there. Overall the food was good but the environment was not friendly.

Well, apparently people don't come here for the teppan yaki. This place was a disaster. My friends and I came to this place because of the reviews. We were here on a conference and decided to drive 25 minutes from our hotel just to try this place. MISTAKE. At first, we started out ok. The miso was alright, but the salad was horrible. The fried rice is not cooked with any meat, which for me was odd because thats usually the fat that is used to cook and flavor the fried rice. I was trying to be optimistic for my calamari and was happy with the taste. The texture was par. Over cooked and rubbery but the flavor compensated. What really sent me over the edge was something out of Kitchen Nightmares. The chef dropped the spatula. No big deal right? NO, BIG DEAL. You CANNOT pick up a spatula off of the rubber mat.. Which was on the GROUND, wipe it off, and continue to cook with it. Are you serious? What got me wasn't the fact that both my colleagues witnessed this, it was the man sitting diagonally from me saw it as well. Not only did he witness the same thing we did, he looked at me and just shrugged his shoulders as the chef continued to cook his food so nonchalantly. Am I in the Twilight Zone? How the hell did this place get an "A" from the health department. I would NEVER come back again. EVER. Apparently it's the hot pot this place is good for. I feel sick just thinking about this place. The manager came over to our table but only asked how the other party liked their meals. I wanted to tell her about my experience, but didn't want to flag her down. Grade: F

I love this place very much. I did visit weekly at one time and have visited for my birthday and special occasions many times. In my opinion, it is great food for very reasonable prices. As with all things, they have there bad days and good days, but never awful. One word of advice... if you or your family members are not accustom to this type of food or a very real Chinese culture restaurant this will not be the place to go in my opinion. There are no special menus for kids with corn dogs and pizza. I have read many reviews were someone has given a bad review and it was because they expected an "Americanized" version of Teppan. This is not it. Other than that, enjoy.

Just like everyone else stated...if you've seen this kinda thing before then there's nothing special about it here. Food: We had a party of 6 so everything was pretty much ordered. The portions are that big, but honestly it's about what you order and who else is ordering (i.e. if 2 people get the same meat, the chef might just cut up 1 of that meat and split it between you two). One thing I'd definitely stay away from is the calamari (way too fishy), but aside from that the rest of the menu is pretty decent especially for lunch prices. Also, add the $ for the fried rice, it was definitely worth it. Service: To be honest, my party came pretty late for lunch (pretty much closing time but the chef was still kind enough to go through cooking for us). Didn't do anything fancy, but I've seen those things plenty so I didn't really care for it. However he did the flaming volcano (which I'm thinking is a standard because the onions gets heated that way) which still catches my eye every time for some reason lol. PS: I'd try to come here during a busy time like weekends or something. The atmosphere adds a lot to the experience and when you come to these kind of places then it's mainly for the experience. (It was pretty dead in there when we were went on a weekday lunch)

My wife & I were craving Teppanyaki & decided to check this place out. When we arrived parking was tough, this place is located in an Asian shopping center, which has several restaurants all of which appeared packed. After circling the parking lot a couple of times we finally found a parking spot. When we walked inside we noticed the place obviously catered to Chinese, we felt a little out of place because we didn't understand anything anyone was saying. The first person that attempted to greet us did not speak English. They second a second person appeared confused at our special request. When at Teppanyaki's we rarely sit at the grill, we usually request a table away from all the excitement. The second lady was a very nice lady & when I asked for a table away from the grill, she didn't know what to do, so she sent a third person who understood our request & told us to wait a couple of minutes. We were seated five minutes later. The hostess told us because we were not at the Teppan table they would have to cook everything we ordered in the kitchen. This seemed kind of strange, but she assured us it would be prepared exactly the same. Our waitress was also very nice & eager to help us. She did speak broken English & appeared to understand everything we ordered. Our food arrived in a timely manner & everything was just was ok. Nothing great just ok. The fried rice was lacking flavor, my filet mignon was so so. To be honest I probably won't return. There are too many better options when were craving teppanyaki. The place was packed full of people so I don't think they will miss me anyway. They are very reasonably priced & conveniently located, unfortunately just not that good.

My gf took me here to eat some hot pot. It was a decent experience but I was kinda disappointed. 2.5 stars, but I will round up. Food- The portions were ok, beef was kinda small and def not enough for 3 people. (Waiter said it would be). Veggies, tofu, fish cake, shrimp balls, mushrooms and vermicelli came in separate dishes. We just dumped everything into the pot and stirred. We had the half spicy and half normal broth. OMG.. The spicy broth set my mout on fire! I love spicy stuff, but DAYAM, this shit was beyond hot. I would not reccommend the spicy unless you are super hardcore. Just get the regular broth and dip everything into the satay sauce, green onions, onions and sesame oil mixture and it will taste good. The table was way too small. I was feeling really cramped with this huge ass pot in the middle and all the small dishes around it. Cleaniless of the place was EH. We got some spoons and they were disgusting. We had to ask for new ones. I dont know if this is the norm in Asian restaurants, but GROSS. The staff here don't really speak English, so try to come here with someone who speaks Chinese. My Mandarin is pretty rusty, but I managed to communicate with the peeps. Tab was $53.. dang.. kinda pricey for Hot pot. I much prefer shabu shabu.

My favorite place for Shabu-Shabu. Perfect for the cold rainy weather. Try the Fried Rice. There's a lot of options for the shared pot. I recommend making a reservation because they get packed(more towards the winter time)

there are two sides to this resturant: the teppanyaki side and the hot pot side. i used to only come here for the teppanyaki, and while it's good, it's not amazing here. the chefs put on a good show and the meat is cooked well, but it's honestly not that much different from benihana in quality. HOWEVER, i came here recently to try the hot pot side because i was craving some spicy hot pot. boy, they weren't kidding when they said it was gonna be spicy. i almost couldn't take it, i had to ask the waiter to pour in more soup base to dilute out the spicyness. i think not eating spicy foods for a while has made me weaksauce and that makes me :( i was really happy with the hot pot side of the restaurant. there were a lot of choices of meats, veggies and starches to throw into the mix and they were all fresh from what i could tell. if you didn't choose the best cuts of meat, then it actually comes out to be pretty cheap. a meal for two cost about $30 for dinner, but we were left with a bunch of leftovers so it was really worth it in my opinion. this was my first time trying hot pot in the states in an actual restaurant. i usually just do hot pot at home with friends and family. but this place really reminded me of genuine hot pot places in china. not AS good, but satisfying enough for my spicy hot pot cravings.

Had the teppanyaki and was happy with my meal. I knew it's not the authentic Japanese deal since they whole restaurant's filled with Chinese waitstaff. I've seen enough smoking onions and don't really care for the tossing of food I had to pay for in case they miss my mouth. (which happened before.....that's for another review) We had the fillet, scallops and lobster. My steak was a little overcooked from what I had requested, but everything else tasted ok. A little on the bland side for me, I think I'll ask for more seasoning next time. Good value, and good service, will return for more yummy yummy sauce. haha!

By far, Kingswood (Hot Pot side) will always be one of my favorites. Not only is it well priced, the soup broth is delicious --they have several levels of spiciness to choose from. I prefer medium-spice. Food items include beef, lamb, mushrooms, veggies, fish balls, pig blood cake, shirmp balls, chinese donuts, etc. Pls don't complain about paying $3.50 for the soup! It comes with some basic veggies and tofu, etc. There are other places that just come with soup ONLY! The restaurant probably takes several hours to prepare the broth and it's not something you can put together at home (at least I couldn't!). The service is impeccable, especially for a Chinese restaurant. I've seen the same waiters & waitresses the past 3-4 years so I'm sure the owner treats them well. They're so well mannered & trained --always there to greet me, refill the soup, drinks, ask if everything is okay, etc. Having the VIP card also helps! Thumbs up. The wait can be tedious in the winter time, but that only means the food is worth the wait!

My most favorite restaurant, ever. Kingswood is half hot pot half teppanyaki. I've never got to try the teppanyaki side and I don't think that I will ever get to because I can't resist the hot pot side! I usually come here with a friend whos parents know exactly what to order but I'll tell you what I know! Sometimes theres a wait but honestly, I think the wait is worth it. The most I've had to wait was 30 minutes. We usually get half spicy half regular broth. I LOVE THE SPICY BROTH. It's absolutely perfect here. There are different levels of spicyness so, don't sweat it! The broth also comes ready with vegetables, tofu and squid in it. You order according to which meat you want and which other small dishes you want. I've gotten beef, mutton, fish balls, fish cake, frozen tofu, greens, bamboo shen vermicelli and sooo many other things! Frozen tofu is my favorite. If you leave it in the spicy broth, it will collect all that spicyness! The fried rice is also to die for! Looks may be deceiving; one is good enough for 2 people to share. The dipping sauce you make to your liking; add onions, green onions, vinegar, soy sauce and this thick sauce (im not sure what it is) and stir it! Some of my taiwanese friends like to crack a raw egg into it. Sometimes I feel like getting all spicy broth and not half half but I end up regretting it. The plain broth is really good and if your order noodles, you can cook them in the plain broth and eat it as a noodle soup!! For dessert they give the hot red bean tapioca but if you ask for it, you can get almond jello with fruits instead! (not a lot of people know that!) You can also save 10% or 15% if you open up a Kingswood card, but you must pay with cash to get that discount. I would eat this place more if I lived closer!! Luckily my boyfriend dad brought back leftovers for us tonight!!

I went here yesterday with my friends and I was pleasantly surprised. I have been to other shabu shabu places and this place was actually in my price range. They charge $3.50/person for the hot pot which includes cabbage and tofu already. We added a plate of sliced beef for $4, squid rings and fish balls for $3.75 and corn and mushrooms for $3.75. The soup was so filling and it was cheap! I also like this place because you can put a divider in the pot so that you can have one side spicy and the other side regular. The one pot of soup was more than enough for 4 people. Highly recommended!

I usually never go and get hot pot (or shabu shabu) because it can get super expensive, and i can make it at my own house for twice the amount of food for cheaper. I only tried the hot pot and Kingswood- not the teppan, and I was pleasantly suprised with the selection of meats, veggies, and assorted dipping sauces. Me and two others really love spicy foods, so we divided the pots into medium spicy and spicy. We ordered the beef, lamb, chinese greens, napa cabbage, mushrooms, fish cake, and tofu. I kinda wished they made it a bit spicier....but I was still content with the flavor of our broth. We got both the rib-eye and the regular beef, and the consensus was that they tasted the same (rib-eye $13, beef $3.50). we probably wouldn't order the ribeye again even though it was fattier (which I really am not a fan of in the first place.) Things that made me especially happy: the soup base, lamb, napa cabbage, thai bird chilies (oh yeah!), soft tofu. I was in hot pot heaven, sweating, sniffling, slurping and just having a generally amazing time with friends who enjoy the joy that is food. It is a little far, but I thought it was worth it to go. It definitely was much easier having someone there who spoke mandarin. There was no confusion, and we got everything to our liking. It supposedly gets really packed during lunch and dinners! We came around 1:30, and it was not too bad...

I have been to the shabu shabu side since I was in elementary school. I use to always drink soup until I felt like I was going to explode! The soup broth is always good and this place is pretty consistent. Last time I went with my family (4 people) though I think our bill came out kind of high, around 80 or 90 dollars...we always get the same stuff so not sure if they raised the prices or what.

Stopped by the afternoon before Christmas. Place was full but not overly busy for Teppan, plenty of room for normal sit and order. The chef was funny, and although he did burn his hand, he complted all the usual bag of tricks. Parking is ample, but sometimes sparse because of the many people that visit other establishments in the area. Location : Rowland Heights is rapidly becoming just like San Gabriel, Alhambra area and getting overcrowded with a bunch of traffic. The place is clean, you don't smell after eating here. Overall the taste here is solid, never changes, although the prices do. A two item combo runs between 15-25 dollars and is enough food for one person. It includes miso-onion soup, mini salad, your meat choices and fried rice already included. We also had the Fried banana, which was abit on the sweet side for me. The meats were well cooked to order in front of you and plenty of extra vegetables given including squash, onions, bean sprouts. I recommend the black pepper sauce over teriyaki

Agree with some of the reviews that Kingswood is a better value than Benihana, and actually tastes more authentic. My family and I have been coming year since the restaurant opened (over 20yrs ago?), though our visits have been far more infrequent in the past few years. I think the experience really depends on which chef is taking care of the teppanyaki table. One of my biggest peeves is when they aren't able to divide the portions equally, such that I feel I end up paying for strangers at the table. Consider this: my friends and family are all serious eaters, and so we order accordingly. This usually means that we order extra dinner sets/portions to share among the group. These complete sets are supposed to each come with soup/salad/rice/dessert, as well as portions of zucchini & bean sprouts. On several occasions, we have witnessed our extra portions of beef/lobster/scallops/etc being split with those who only ordered one portion! It's so blatantly obvious and we've discussed this with management, but it does continue to happen. We forewarned that you may be paying for more than your share of food here.

I dislike this place with a passion. This place is basically a failed version of a Benihana. The chef isn't even enthusiastic when he's cooking the food in front of you. I mean, cool there's an onion volcano. But seriously, that's probably standard for ANY teppanyaki place. The food wasn't even that good, except for the friend rice. Now, let's move on to the hot pot section of this restaurant. I honestly felt like all they did was give you a metal bowl of boiling water. Nothing had any flavor and the interior was dull. Whenever I come in here, it's almost empty or all full. I've been here a lot of times because my family enjoys it but if I were you, I'd avoid it at all costs.

This review is only for the hot pot served at Kingswood. I did not have any of the teppanyaki. The selection was good and the serving size was pretty good for ingredient. All of the usual players were on the menu, beef, lamb, pork, goose intestines. heh. But seriously, it looked appetizing and it was tasty. There were these squid cake things that looked like tortellinis. There were very tasty. We had our hot pot half wussy and the other half med spicy. I do like my food spicy, but it's never best to jump until you've tested the waters. At first taste, the med-spicy was nuclear hot. There were pieces of cabbage that was floating in there and with the molten red oil covering it, I was seeing nirvana hallucinations from the seething heat. After that, somehow I became accustomed to the spiciness and it became addictive. I'd definitely do it again and maybe do full spicy next time. :-) Service was fast and attentive. Don't plan on lounging around after eating, they're really good about turning over the tables.

love the hotpot. especially the pigliver in the spicy soup, it was prefect. they cut it so thin thats why it doesnt taste so weird. I usually dont eat organs, cuz they always smells. im a hotpot fan, this is my favorit hot pot overall.

I LOVE YOU, HOT POT! I come here quite a lot and am always pleased with the service. Everything is reasonably priced, the food is delicious... sliced mutton (my absolute favorite), sliced beef, sliced pork, fried bread (yum), udon, fish balls, ...and watermelon juice! Fried rice is decent too, but I must say it's nothing compared to Benihana's fried rice. Oh, you must also try their fried banana, it is ultimate deliciousness! HOWEVER, if you come here on a weekend night, expect a loooong wait. I suggest you make reservations ahead of time (yes, they take reservations)... but even then, you might still have to wait awhile (that's what happened to me once)... and that's why this place will get 4/5 stars.

We came today to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. We didn't have much expectations. We were their first customer at 5 pm and it was phenomenal service. Their specials are written down in a lil blackboard as soon as you walk in, the hostess/waitress did point it out to us. California rolls (6 pcs) for $2.95. Kirin beer pitcher for $6.95. Fresh watermelon juice for $1.99. Honey green tea for $0.99. That's what we ordered from the specials. Then we ordered from the tepan menu, filet mignon garlic pepper and it came with vegetables, fried rice ($1.75 extra), soup, salad, and free dessert (almond jello). My mother in law ordered lobster + salmon. My sis-in-law ordered scallops. We also ordered hot pot. All were DELICIOUS! Never had so many garlic in our dishes yet it was sooooo damn good. Very flavorful and not as oily as Benihana. I also ordered fried banana and it was seriously heaven! It tasted like caramelized banana. What a treat! The chef was sooo kind. Before he started the show, he asked if our kids (my almost 2 yr old daughter and my 8 months niece) would be scared of fire. HE gave us a warning and we told him it would be alright. He was very interactive and kept my lil one entertained. I thought that was sooo thoughtful. This Asian restaurant is very accommodating to lil kids. THey have high chairs. The watermelon juice I ordered for my toddler came with a sippy cup. The waitress also brought a plastic plate and plastic utensils for my toddler. They kept talking to her. At one point when my lil girl was a lil loud, i shushed her and the waitress told me it was ok because there weren't customers yet. At the end, she even gave my lil girl a lollipop. The bill for 5 adults and TONS of food + drinks came out to $150. We paid $180. Totally worth it! We were all very surprised with the service and how delicious the food was. My husband isn't a huge fan of hot pot but he would return for the hot pot. Warning: he ordered VERy spicy and it was VERY spicy! We all thought the food had enough flavor and tasted very fresh. We all left happy + full!

This is a review for the teppanyaki part only. Came here for my birthday dinner so we got 15% off our bill. It was slightly cheaper than Benihana and the food was decent but my family still prefers Benihana.

What word comes to mind when I think of Kingswood for HOT POT...average. Yes the broth and spices are average. The meats and veggies ....average. The cost not average, EXPENSIVE.. What does all this mean.I'm not going back ever again, to many other places to set my intestines on fire.

Came here with a friend for a teppanyaki lunch and was relatively pleased with our food. I got a combo sliced beef, udon, and calamari, with a side of their special friend rice, and everything was pretty all right, but not...spectacular? My friend also got a beef roll, which was vegetables rolled up into a thin slice of beef. It's something I've never seen before, but when eaten it just tastes like beef with vegetables. The chef did like two tricks as he cooked our food, but I guess after having teppanyaki once before the novelty already wore off. D: Plus he didn't seem too enthusiastic about it--it was around 3PM when we went so the restaurant didn't have too many people, and based on what the waiters and the chefs were murmuring to themselves before he came out to cook for us, I think they were hoping that they could get more people to the table before the chef came out to cook. Instead he just had me and my friend to entertain so maybe he was just kinda Whatev' about it. Our meal came out to $25 with tax and tip included, so it's a little on the steep side too, although we had a good chunk of food leftover to take home. Overall it was good, and it was my friend's first time at a teppanyaki place too, but it's probably just gonna be a one-time thing for us.

I usually go eat Teppan at the one in San Gabriel, but I decided to mix it up a bit. I am basing this review solely on the hot pot. My friend and I came on a Thursday to eat hot pot. We were immediately seated. We are fairly new to hot pot and the waiter was kind enough to explain what we should ordered. We ordered the soup base as hot and mild hot. We thought we could handle the spicyness, but were were wrong. It was really spicy but still tolerable to eat. The vegetables and meat that the waiter recommended all worked really well. We had beef, mushroom, vegetables, shrimp dumplings, and some other side dishesI can't really remember. Overall, I would definitely go back. Yummy!

Came here with a couple friends last night.. overrated.. The wait was app. 30 min. We were about to go to the Capital Seafood Restaurant across the street but there is something about the draw of a long line coming out of a store that tempts you. So we head in, write our names down and wait. It was raining so the veranda was packed with people waiting in line making it super uncomfortable.. During the wait.. I checked up on yelp to find what their specialties were.. Teppan and Hot Pot. Definitely HotPot was getting most of the attention. We were finally seated and decided on the spicy and extra spicy hot pot. This is definitely not your average shabu shabu.. Chinese/Japanese Fusion? It wasn't bad but I have no idea what the dipping sauce is. It all tasted a bit funky... bad call on the extra spicy.. I was choking through most of the meal. I ordered the rice cake from the menu.. They forgot to mention that they are blood rice cakes.. Not amused. Im not a picky eater so managed to wolf it all down.. but I will not be back

I wanted to show my friend, who has never seen a teppan show or even had Japanese food, well, a Japanese restaurant with a teppan show. We came here for dinner and the show was extremely lacking. It was the worst show I've been to actually. The chef did the standard fare of whacking/flipping his knives and the volcano onion but that was it! Where's the shrimp toss? I love making a fool out of myself when I can't catch the shrimp. But the food was good - probably one of the best for a teppan steak house. The price was also reasonable for a teppan dinner. And service was okay. My friend did enjoy the food. I might come back but only to try the Hot Pot.

We were there for a late lunch today, and there were only 2 other couples in the whole place. One couple was at the teppanyaki side and the other couple at the hot pot side. We chose the teppanyaki. They had a lunch combination where you could choose 2 items for 10.95 and 3 items for 13.95. That was a pretty good deal, for a good amount of food. Unfortunately, I chose to have the scallop and filet mignon for 20.95 and felt at the end of it that it wasn't really worth it. The filet mignon was tender and yummy, but the scallops were not cooked very well, and were on the bitter side. The sides of vegetables were pretty lean, and the dipping sauces were very mediocre. Since I'm not one to appreciate any shows put on by the chef, I'd say I enjoyed his near silence. He was polite and all, and I think he could see that we were not very responsive to his theatrics, so he very cleverly left us alone. To me, that was pretty discerning.

The plaza this restaurant is located in has 2 other insanely busy and amazing establishments (Boiling Crab & Coconut Bay) which generate one hell of an issue for parking so before you do anything else, make it easier on yourself and park across the street at the 99 ranch market. If you're going on a weekend night you're definitely going to have trouble finding a space. I came to this place with a couple friends and, the wait was about 30 minutes which is normal for any good restaurant on a weekend night. At first me being the half white/asian conscious guy I always am curious to see how they treat non asians at asian demographic establishments. The people here were very nice and attentive! The servers would always make sure our table was doing fine. We ordered the Hot Pot half spicy and plain and it was amazing. For the price you pay here you get 80x more meat and food than you would at the Tokyo Shabu Shabu at life plaza around the corner (and sensationally better service.) The servers always come around to see if you want to fill up your soup, or need more rice. If you come here with a group looking to fill up then you hit the jack pot. The seating inside however is a little cramped, but its very much just a standard chinese restaurant inside with the back being used as a teppanyaki place alternative restaurant. Honestly if you're down for hot pot then you should definitely come here. The place is always busy, and there's a reason for that: ITS DELICIOUS!

This is for the hot pot side. :P~ Hot pot is always great for a cold night, and the spicy broth really warmed me up. They have a pretty big selection of items, and all of it tasted pretty good. There was this orange thing that tasted pretty good.. I couldn't tell what it was, and unfortunately the staff member I asked couldn't seem to explain it to me. Eh, it was good. ;D My one complaint about this place: the steam from the broth rises to the ceiling, and then drops as condensation on you as you eat. I've never really noticed, but I guess the ceiling is lower than previous hot pot places I've been to. They have vents, but they're obviously not doing their job well enough, since we saw some waiters get up on chairs to wipe the ceiling after a group left. Really good food. Pretty annoying to deal with the condensation throughout the meal though.

I've tried a few Teppan's and this is by far the best in flavor and price. OMG I had the scallops and chicken and the scallops were soooooo garlicy--I really enjoyed the flavor and how tender they were. My friend had the steak and the steak was so juicy and tender--WOW!! The beer is expensive here, for a regular size Asahi it was $6.50. Yes! We got a beer each and some sake and we were good! Benihana's who?? ;)

My friend lovvves this place, and she's Chinese! I've only had their teppan until this past weekend,I tried their hot pot. Their teppan is mediocre, the taste is less than Benihana. The chef's do not even attempt to put on a show, unless you're non-asian. For us Asians, its expected that you've seen the "show." Whatever, I don't eat teppan to be oo'ed and ahh'ed by the smoking onion volcano. Their fried rice is probably the best thing. I have tried the N.Y. strip and the Filet. In this case, the filet was the obvious good quality choice. The N.Y. strip was SO tough I ate about 2 pieces and I was done. I've also had their white fish with yum-yum sauce (I know what you're thinking, why would I get something thats called yum-yum?). Yeah, the yum-yum sauce was not so yum-yum. It was mayonaise-y, creamy, which I did not like on the fish. On to Hot pot: You pick your ingredients to cook inside the hot pot. We got half spicy and half regular for the broth. I love spicy food, but the spicy broth tasted funny. We ordered: mushrooms, cabbage, spinach, shrimp, fish cake balls, a lot of beef, tofu, and vermicelli noodles. You get to create your dipping sauce from satay sauce, vinegar, some oil, and vinegar, and they give you chopped onions and green onions. The hot pot experience was OK. I much prefer Korean style hot pot. My favorite place for K shabu shabu is Seoul House on Olympic in K-town. Will I be coming back? Probably because of my friends.

This is the worst teppan i've been. Ok, the food might be edible and its not that bad, but the chef didn't show us anything, so... why would i spend so much when we don't get to enjoy any entertainment from the chef :(

This is, by far, my favorite teppan steak house... and even though I'm an avid teppan fan, I also love their hot pot. The fact that they have both together gives you a wonderful choice when you come here. But if I can, I'll try to go to the teppan side! First of all, their service is pretty good... not exceptional, but given how busy it usually is when I go, I'm surprised the waiters are still quite attentive to my needs (I've had consistently worse service at supposedly better restaurants). They have never been anything less than friendly, and they always act as if they know me (which they probably do since I come here frequently, lol); actually, my boyfriend and I kept getting the same chef for teppan during this one period that he actually recognizes us now, and he's so nice and friendly! The hot pot is traditional Chinese hot pot (which means, to those of you complaining, no real soup base... that's how we Chinese people roll, lol). The hot pot food isn't exceptional in itself, just very typical, except I really like the idea of using the Chinese donuts in the soup... now that's an excellent idea that I've started practicing at home as well. The main reason I love this place so much is for it's teppan! Also somewhat typical, except that they have some Chinese-style entrees which I know my parents would love (they are very traditional Chinese), although I personally am not a fan of that. I always get their filet mignon, which is always cooked exactly the way I want it (with extra butter and soy sauce), although I've had a few bites of their fish and shrimp, which is always cooked perfectly as well. But most importantly... lobster with yum yum sauce! The lobster is always cooked very well, which is great since a lot of places overcook seafood; and when they add that yum yum sauce, it's just to die for. In fact, my boyfriend and I always ask the chef to add a little yum yum sauce to our fried rice too, lol. So if you get lobster... say yes to yum yum!!! Just a little critical of the restaurant's set up, slightly crowded (the tables are too small for hot pot!) and not exactly spotless... but the way they prepare food looks good to me! Overall, I love this place. Good place for hot pot if you're too lazy to make it yourself, but mostly they have wonderful teppan! The only problem for me, personally... it's a half-hour drive away. But well worth the trip!

The great Teppan Place. Cheaper than Benihana. If you order something, you will get a steamed rice, salad(1000 island and ginger dressing), soup and dessert. Get a fried rice. it's a MUST. ($1.99) We had Teppan Udon, Shrimp, Lobster and Fillet Mignon w/ garlic. Everything was so tasty. can't wait to go back.

I've only had the hot pot side. Food was great and reasonably priced. I went with two others and I think the 3 of us overdid it. The bill came out to around $90 after tip and that included beers. We got some of the more expensive items on the menu such as oysters that were good, but in hindsight didn't really go well with hot pot. We also ordered extra veggies, not knowing that they included some cabbage in the pot. Next time we will get more meat. Service was pretty good as well. My soda was constantly refilled. It did get a bit hot in there, but then again you have to suffer for your hot pot cravings in the middle of summer.

my 1st hot pot experience and i'm glad it was here. my co-worker (who is tiawanese explained that it's way kind of like "shabu shabu" except everyone shares a pot (may sound gross, but no worries you have ladles and we asked for extra chopsticks) and you order things individually" basically you have a pot with two sides: a spicy side and a not spicy side, we asked for medium, but the lady explained that the medium is spicy so recommended the one in between mild and medium and i'm glad she did because it was SPICY! which was perfect for a weather like yesterday. anyways then you get to order what you want we got chicken, fishcake +egg dumplings, napa cabbage, and noodles...wow that was A LOT we didn't realize that already inside the hot pot there was cabbage and fish cake. overall we spent about $15, which is a great deal because we were stuffed and took a lot to go (we asked them to seperate the broth and the noodles) i will DEFINITELY come back, but next time order less and a couple at a time :P i would recommend people to try it...it's very good :]

I came at 5pm last night and there were only 4 other tables in the hot pot area, the service here was spectacular. My coke was refilled 3 times without even having to flag them down and they took three additional orders for the hot pot with no delay.

HOT POT! HOT POT! HOT POT!!!! hi everyone! i finally came after reading all reviews in yelp and these are my experiences: 1. food: awesome, inexpensive, affordable, well prepared, up-to-standard. if you came for hot pot, the food ordering system goes like this: they charge 3.50 per person for hot pot automatically. you choose your plate of ingredients you want in your hot pot such as pork, lamb, meatballs, intestines, spam, oyster balls, squid balls, imitation crabs, cabbage, tofu, etc. each ingredient costs 3.00-4.75. you order whatever ingredients you want to the waiter, and he brings them to you raw. you put them in the boiling pot of broth, and voila! place/atmosphere: clean floors, clean tables, somewhat big place, somewhat spacy. location is easy to find, parking could be hard. we got there at 6:05 and there were still parking. we left at 7:15, what a big difference! full parking lot. customer service: over the top super duper friendly, i almost wanna hug all of them. please let me tell you, this was our first time. we didnt know what the hell we shouold do, what happens next, what to expect, we dont know anything! we were staring at out menus for 15 minutes looking at each other, almost to say this is a big mistake. until we told our waiter that it was out first time. he was very helpful, and told us what we need to know, from step 1. a lot of ladies came up and asked ''is this your first time?'' because it totally looked like it, with a deer in the headlights look. one lady literally put our ingredients in the hot pot, fixed us our personal taiwanese bbq sauce in bowls, mixed it with my chopsticks, took a tofu out of the hotpot, and almost wanna put it in my mouth! bottomline, they were all SWEET, mild mannered, respectful, cordial, friendly. let me tell you, when i go to a restaurant, it is either, good food, good place, good waiter, bad price. or good waiters, good price, good food, bad place. but man, THIS is the place that in my opinion is best in all aspects. i have yet to try the teppanyaki! it has a great energy as well, with a professional cook making food right in front of you.

Definitely one of the best hot pot joints I've ever been to (both in America and Taiwan). The restaurant is nice, the service is EXCELLENT and the food/portions are great. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where the owner herself came out to greet each table individually and have a conversation (albeit in Mandarin with my girlfriend lol). My girlfriend and I got a pot with spicy and regular broth. We ordered a ton of food, too much for me to even remember. However, some of the highlights were the pork and beef slices, the golden mushrooms, the fish & squid dumplings, fried taro, beef tendon, beef tendon meatballs, winter melon slices and THE FRIED BUNS. We left with a full stomach and reasonably priced bill which was definitely worth the charge! We didn't have the teppan this time, but I'm sure when we try the it, it will be just as good as the hot pot. Recommendations: EVERYTHING!! Or just try what I listed above (especially the fried buns). Warnings: None! Just Go!

The husband and I decided to go for Hot Pot, and this place was highly rated. We arrived at 6 and the place was kinda empty.... We had hot pot before so we knew what we were getting into... We wanted to order the spicy soup, but the worker guy insisted we only get medium and mild (it's a half and half pot) He said if it wasn't spicy enough then he will add more chili to it.. The soup came with napa cabbage and some bean curd They also gave us fresh green onion and regualr white chopped onion. We ordered 2 beef, half beef meatball, fish cake, squid balls, and something I don't remember. We also ordered a chinese donut and we had their fried rice($1.50) We ended up asking for more chili sauce as it wasn't spicy enough, but at least we were warned before. Overall service was really good. The employees spoke english and they didn't have a hard time understanding us. We would return for the hot pot and maybe even the teppanyaki.

the company that i work for usually has a company lunch the last Friday of the month, the office voted to have the lunch at this place. walking into this place around noon on a Friday, this place was deserted. we basically had the place to ourselves. the food wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable either, there was no one thing that make me say o0oo0o0o0 i want more of that, our chef/ grill-er/ teppan person was not very enthusiastic about serving us, he was always looking down and not socializing with us, there was no energy there. usually when you go to a place like this the person making your food is usually more involved in it. but not here...

Our new fav place in Rowland Heights....We ordered from the lunch menu, which is offered on Sunday which I that was very cool since most places DONT do that... We first walked in and thought this isnt going to work since we have 2 toddlers in tow and saw that it might not be for us....but the hostess was very hospitable and assured us that it was ok for the kids...the service was great, my kids made a mess as usual but I always take care of the wait staff after the meal... I'll put this place up against Benihana any day of the week..the kids dug the food and didnt get frightened by the theatrics (Onion volcano) ...the foods awesome and not too heavy on the wallet...

Umm umm love this place. I normally go with my Chinese friends and let them do most of the ordering . It got a lil confusing the first time I tried my self. But I had to get my last taste before summer really kicks in. (this stuff is hot!) went with a couple of buddy's hoping for the best (non of us speak any chinese) but not to woprry we still had awesome service. The hot pot is so good I normally get half spicy and half plain. Which I noticed this time spicy can change its just how hot they decide to make it. This time our hot side wasn't very hot at all, but the fist time I ever went the hot was the hottest food I have ever eaten. guess they didnt think us non asians can hang. lol. Luckily they have no problem bringing you more soup at any time. So I recommend ordering very mild and asking them to add more hot if you need it. The teppanyaki side is also very reasonable but I don't eat it much, I have had comparable tappanyaki's but no one can touch this place when it comes to hot pot. they are the business! From simple stuff everyone can enjoy like chicken, beef, pork, and fillet minon. To stuff to really test your palate like tripe and tongue. check it out and get your hot pot your way!!!

I came here for my friend's 21st Birthday..and compared to Benihana it was horrible! I was sad that there wasn't any good fruity alcoholic drinks to order for my friend's birthday when she turned legal. The food was okay..paying another $10 or so for really good food at Benihana would have been more worth it!

This place is not japanese. It's taiwanese (or some sort). Never have the teppan, but hands down the best tasting hot pot. If you can't take the heat, don't. They get pretty spicy with their soup. Not too expensive either.
